Are shadowknights cool, I want a general explanation of what it will be like leveling one in your opinion, also what do you think is the best race for it, I want to be a troll but your opinion might change mine. Sorry for double post.

Every question in the OP is based solely on personal preference. The only way to find out the answer to those questions is to go out and try a SK for yourself.

Good luck!

Yes, shadowknights are cool. Well liked for groups because they can pull effectively and tank too. As pullers they are not the best, but better than most classes without Feign Death. As tanks they have very good agro abilities.

I have never leveled an SK so I can't tell you what it will be like specifically. It will be fairly easy to solo with lifetaps to heal yourself and snare and FD eventually. You'll need some decent gear as you get higher level. Tanks are needy in the armor department and equipping them could get expensive.

Best race depends what you mean by that. Iksar get a bonus to armor class and hp regen. They are probably the best high end SK race for those reasons. Ogres can't be frontal stunned by melee and can slam but that doesn't seem as tankish. Troll get hp regen and slam. Drakkin get that AE breath weapon, but that's offensive, good for agro and soloing, like a second harm touch. Gnomish shadowknights can tinker, if you're into tradeskills they are the best for you. Since the iksar ac boost grows as you level I think that's just the most tankish choice.

Some old world quests will be difficult or require faction work if you are iksar though.

Based solely on something that no one else has or can get Iksar is the best sk race. The ac bonus is perfect for a tank.

You see very few SK's that are NOT Iksar.

You used to see some erudin and an occasional gnome, due to high intel, but most Sk i used to run into were darkies or ogres. Now its true most are iksar.

I played an Erudite Shadowknight but it was purely for the joy of playing an Erudite SK. The high INT is a terrible trade-off for the exceptionally low STA and AGI.

Usually agility isn't a big deal but Erudite AGI starts at 70, requiring you to spend 5 points to eliminate a sizable AC penalty for sub-average agility.

I have played a paladin to level 56 and a beastlord to 70. I enjoy my 55 SK a lot more than the pally and beastlord class. The darkness line gives us snare no need to chase down runners. Feign death is awesome to split mobs so you can solo pull. It is fun to me to steal strength attack and AC from a mob with our spell lines. You start getting a decent pet IMO at 52 which is level 33. Can't wait till I get pet hold so I can use pet a lot more when pulling.

I see a lot of cookie cutter dark elf SK with blade of disruption.
I went with Erudite to be a Paineel Heretic, able to buy hole key with mace of dark glory at level 55.

I don't know if race much matters. All can be successful. Just know that if you go Ogre or Troll, you'll need to carry around Shrink potions to be able to move around freely inside instances. Ogres and Trolls literally can be caught in tight doorways.

Gnomes only wear small armor and can't wear some items. Iksar used to be armor restricted; are they still?

Typically SKs would solo by pulling a mob to a safe spot in a zone. Then, they'd sick pet and put a snaring dot (darkness line) on them. THen, they'd fear the mob . Then, the sk and the pet chop it up from behind as it slowly trundles away in terror. That still works.

The sk now has the soloing option of buying skinspike potions and letting targets shred themselves on him, occasionally healing self with lifetap line of spells - using the dot snare if the target runs low on health.

Sk's used to have experience penalties, the worst in the game (depending on chosen race - I think troll was worst). Now this is no more.

SK's are useful in group as pullers and tanks. FD pulling allows you to pull a couple of mobs, then FD. The first one turns and goes back. Wait a bit - then pop up and attack the second one - and the first one won't come help. It doesn't always work and there are tricks to it. I'd research FD pulling (Sk's don't get FD at very low lvl - your first levels will be more soloing or tanking).

I play an Ogre SK, currently lvl 68. With the different hotzones, starting tutorials, and everything else, to be honest it doesn't really matter is a race/class has an XP penatly.

Iskar's are popular because of their AC and regen abilities. Trolls have nearly the same regen. The reason I chose orge was because their freaking cool looking. They've got a damn big steep with flaming hooves. How freaking scary cool is an all smoked armored ogre SK on a black flaming hooved horse??? Damn scary cool.

I did toy around with a couple of the different races as an SK and the thing that annoyed more than anything else was getting stunned when I needed/wanted to cast. As an ogre, that didn't happen. In the first 50 lvls or so that's a big deal, after that it's less important because you're either the MT or OT with others doing DPS and it's just your job to keep the baddie pissed enough to hit you.

Everyone has a different opinion as to the role of an SK. Some think tank, others think OT, others think DPS, others think waste of group space get a wizzy/zerker/monk. But if you know what you're doing, you'll be in demand as a player not as a toon.

Like all other posts about race/class, pick what you like. SK's ain't easy. Your pet will ALWAYS blow. Your spells will always lack in comparison to necros and shammys. You'll never out AC/HP a warrior, hell, maybe even a pally will out AC/HP you. A monk/zerker will out DPS you, A RANGER WILL OUT DPS you~!!!

But lets see a ranger OT in Time effectivly. Or a warrior kite. How often is a monk able to peal aggro from a cleric? As an SK you can do all of that. And do it well. A great SK is better than an average warrior. But a great warrior and SK can chain pull the hell out of a zone~!

I also play a shadow knight like most of you. I tank and pull in most groups. Epic 2.0ed and all. Shadow knights are probably one of the best solo classes. If you don't believe me we get life taps which helps with high armor ratio avoidance and dodge abilities will make it sweeter. We have a buff for life tap also and an AA for it to proc off melee attacks. If we start losing life we got the good old epic to clickie so that way we can gain a good amount of life back. If anything this gets sick with a 5 minute recast time. I love my shadow knight. And yes I am an Iksar.
