Does anyone have a list or other resource that gives the starting language skill for each race? I'm trying to compile a list of the languages that each race starts with and rather than creating a new character from each race and checking their skills, I thought I would check here first and perhaps save myself some trouble. Thanks!

I can't find anything on Caster's Realm, EQ Players or Sammana. I think you're going to have to go the long route and gather the info from new characters.

Not sure. There is this languages page on this site (not sure how old it is though).

My understanding is that every race starts with it's own language at 100, and common at 100. All other languages will start at 0. If there are any languages that start higher then that, they'll start at the same level for everyone.

I think that the only exception for this is that rogues get thieves cant at some starting level.

Some races start with some skill in languages of related races or nearby races. Frogloks know a little Troll and I think they start with some Barbarian too. Don't the elves all know a little bit of other elvish languages and do they and the erudites start with a little skill in the elder forms? Do Drakkin start with any skill in the dragon tongues?

hm, might be easier to start 16 new chars, skip tutorial and simply write the stats down... or?

I did check the languages page here but couldn't find anything. mfbrownbear is right, some races start with skill in related/nearby races. My dark elf has 54 skill in Elder Elvish and Elvish, in addition to 100 skill in Common, Dark Elvish, and Dark Speech, and I'm pretty sure a Froglok friend I spammed languages with recently had decent starting skill in Troll. Also I do think that Drakkin start with some knowledge of the Dragon tongues, based on a recent spamming session with another guildie.

It definitely looks like I'll have to go the "create 16 new characters" route and write down the stats. It's not a big deal, though. Thanks much to everyone for responding!

Oh, and I'll post what I find in the Languages section should anyone else need the info....

If I recall correctly my old troll didn't start at 100 in common.

I might be delusional though.

I believe you are right, because I my ogre only started with 95 (or was it 90) in common.

I have a bunch of lvl 1 characters on a server I don't play on. Lemme check.

Gnome - Common and Gnomish 100, Dwarvish 41. Interesting. I would have thought gnomes would speak a little elvish too, but I guess they are closer to Kaladim. This was a Gnomish Shadowknight I checked, so evil gnomes don't know Dark Speech.

Ogre - Ogre 100, Dark Speech 100, Common 95. I would have thought Ogres would speak a little Lizardman. They are all over Feerrott.

Erudite - Common and Erudian 100. That's it. This was an Erudite Necromancer I checked, so evil Erudites do not know Dark Speech. I guess only the exclusively dark races can speak it.

Iksar - Dark Speech and Lizardman 100. Common 95. This was a lvl 19 iksar, but he had soloed to there so I think these are the starting stats for Iksar.

Half Elf - Common and Elvish 100. That's it. This character's home city was Surefall Glade. I don't know if Half Elves starting in Kelethin have different ones.

The other characters on this server were Drakkin and Dark Elf, which were already covered.

You are right, just checked my troll trader.

Dark Speach - 100
Troll - 100
Common - 98 (Might be a few lower to start. I very well could have had a few skill ups.)

Thanks for all the help guys. I went ahead and created new characters of my own and here is what I found. All races start with 100 in Common, with the exception (as mentioned above) of Ogres, Trolls, and Iksar which start a few points shy of 100. All races start with 100 in their racial language. I've left that data out of the below list, except in the case of the Half-Elf and Iksar where there is a tad bit of ambiguity about the racial language. If a race isn't listed below, then it doesn't know languages other than Common and it's racial language. I'll post this in the language thread too. Let me know if you notice any errors.

Dark Elf: Elvish (54), Elder Elvish (54), Dark Speech (100)
Drakkin: Dragon (100), Elder Dragon (100)
Dwarves: Gnomish (25)
Frogloks: Troll (42)
Gnomes: Dwarvish (54)
Half-Elves: Elvish (100)
High Elves: Dark Elvish (51), Elder Elvish (51)
Iksar: Lizardman (100), Dark Speech (100)
Ogres: Dark Speech (100)
Trolls: Dark Speech (100)
Vah Shir: Erudian (32), Combine (100)

Also, Rogues start with Thieves Cant at a skill of 100.

By the way, is there a title that comes with mastering all the languages?

I think that once you have maxed skills in all languages you can give yourself the title of Cunning Linguist.
