Can anyone tell me what the "Held" slot is? Is it the cursor?

Held slot is Primary. "Held" is old lingo I rarely hear these days.

I had never heard the term 'held' slot, but primary makes sence.

I did a turn in for a quest the other night and in return I was given a container. All my container slots were full. Each container had at least one no-drop item in it.

So there I was with a container on my pointer and no where to put it. I was in a room. I couldn't open doors, or mem spells, so it seemed I was stuck. I ended up 'destroying' one of my bags, with all it's contents (the most valuable being my nearly full stack of c-pots).

Would the 'open' command have worked on the door in this instance?

(If I'd have had even a gate spelled memmed to my bar I could have gotten to a bank, but I didn't)

Most doors can be opened by standing close to them and pressing the letter U, as in USE I assume.
Don't ask how I know that /em rolls eyes.

I was reminded of the U key function recently and can tell you it would certainly have let you open the door with something on the cursor provided you were in First Person View.

Held slot is definitely not primary slot.

When you do the /outputfile inventory somename.txt command, you get all your equipment slots in a file, and there's a primary slot as well as a held slot (which always seems to be empty)...

I think you may have been right from the beginning bbot, that it is probably the cursor.

There's justification for it being a valid slot. Some parts of the game actually require you to have a certain item on your cursor and use the U key. Identify spell tells you the item lore of whatever is on the cursor. Rogue lockpicks must be on the cursor and can modify at least one stat while there.

Have you ever done one of those output files with something on the cursor?

Held slot = what you are holding on to. So if you have nothing on your cursor there is nothing in the held slot but when you take something out of your backpack to move around or equip in the case of gear it is in the held slot.
