I just dinged 27 on my bard earlier, and tested out my charm... I have 137 cha, and decided to charm a needite in echo cavern, and, well... It didn't turn out too well as the charm broke after around 30 seconds.

Is my wind skill too low? Or is my cha too low? I was hoping to go to rathe with him for giants (Or EW, or crystal caverns), but it doesn't look like that'll be happening any time soon.

On a related note, what would be the best place to go to solo? I was using DS + regen + haste potions in palu up til now, and its been awhile since I've been this low... So I have absolutely no idea where to go.

As for the mage... He's 48, has decent gear (I think around 300 int? Its way past the 255 cap), 3k+ mana, a decent amount of HP, and a fire pet that I've twinked out to such an insane extent, even though he's a pet-level below the fire pet I can use now, he rips anything to shreds.... I was soloing high blues (And I think one or two evens) for awhile in... Durak? Dulak? Some harbor with a bunch of undead... But the experience has long since dried up there, and I've come back to EQ after a few month hiatus and have forgotten just about every good haunt.

Anyways, any places I can level either up would be great (And tips for the bard as I have no clue how to properly play one past 25). I'm trying to level them both up so I can switch back and forth should I get bored of the other.

I'll give you an answer based on my recent chanter charming experiences

1. More Cha is better. If you have the /claim nimbus it is a cha buff (or any of the LoN ones if you dabble in that). I wouldn't downgrade other important stats to boost cha alone, but you might sacrifice a slot for one big boost item if it worries you.

2. Blightfire Moors was a great place to charm solo for me --very straight up zone especially in the southwest. Goru'kar Mesa was decent but had to learn which mobs to avoid as more immunes/resists and social aggro to deal with. Blackfeather roost looked really promising but I didnt experiement much in there. Those 3 zones can take you to 60ish anyways and you'll make enough plat in vendor loots to support your potion habit (which can make soloing more reliable for sure).

As for the mage... you are hitting the level range where many mages say goodbye to firey and rely on the other pets.

Goru'kar Mesa would be fine for your mage. Velketor's Labrynth is currently a hotzone and might be worth trying out (the Deep is the next hotzone if you can handle it). If your mage is lacking in mana regen the Goru'kar Mesa armor quests from Scout Madu will give you around +4. Most of the quests you would be able to solo (the named can be tricky).

Your first charm is only good for three ticks so you need to reapply it often. Thirty seconds sounds about right so I wouldn't go looking for a bunch of charisma gear to increase it 'cause it ain't gonna increase.

There's two usual ways to use your charm. One is to charm a mob and have it fight another mob, reapplying as needed and assisting your pet if needed until the "bad" mob is dead. Then kill your weakened pet once the charm breaks.

The other way is known as "swarm kiting" and involves getting a bunch of social mobs together. At your level, the standard is cougars in Iceclad (or it was last I played which was ages ago). You get a bunch of cats chasing you, then charm one and have it attack its fellow kittys. The other cougars all pile on it and beat it down. This is the tricky part: when your pet reaches <10% health, you break charm (via invis usually) and then kill your old, very weakened, pet with some other song. Then you charm another cougar, rinse and repeat. This takes a bit of practice to get the timing down and an insta-invis item really helps since your pet will probably die in the three seconds it takes to play your invis song.

If you swarm kite, do it somewhere where you're not bothering other people. Swarming mobs such as Rathe hill giants just gives bards a bad name. And you don't want to kill people with your mistakes (and you will make mistakes) by practicing swarming in a populated zone.

With the level 27 charm song, you really should go to Southern desert of Ro. The spectres near orc highway (or just look for them in the middle of the lake) is a good place to practise swarm kiting.
First of, you swim out and get 5-6 spectres. Then once you are back on land you will notice how slow they are moving (neat) :)
Charm one of them, and have it attack one of the remainig spectres. Break the charm with invis song if needed (if your pet gets too low on hp) and the dot it down for full xp. rinse and repeat until done, and you can keep this up with no downtime when you get the hang of it.

Dont know much about mages :(

good luck

My mage just dinged 55, and I'm having a hard time finding out where he can solo... He has his 53 earth pet (I love him), and now has 14 mana/tick regen gear + 6hp/tick regen gear (Thanks snailish).

I was owning velks pretty well, but everything there is lb to me now. I'd like to be able to do a hotzone if possible, but I'd prefer to solo.

Is it possible to invis past the 4 mob groups to climb the tower in velks? I'd like to go back there since the mobs don't run, but I don't want to hunt spiders anymore since they give jack in terms of xp.

Temple of Droga is the hotzone for level 55-60, but soloing in that dungeon may be tricky for you since mobs run on low hp. I think most mobs in the 50-55 hotzone The Deep run on low hp too.

Veksar isn't a hotzone anymore but still has an xp mod and if you get some invis to undead potions you can set up camp anywhere you like with little or no trouble. Watch out for the named goblin right past the first room full of undead though.
