Haha I have another question this morning. I SHOULD prolly already know the answer to this, but for some reason I dont know or dont fully understand the concept.

My question is about buffs, specifically buff slots. For example, a spell description will read .. " Stacking: Block new spell if slot 1 is effect 'Max Hitpoints' and < 1350" or "Stacking: Block new spell if slot 3 is effect 'Max Hitpoints' and < 1300"

So does it matter what slot you put a buff into? Is say slot 3 better for one kind of buff (kei ) versus an entirely different one (tenacity )

And what is this buff blocking and how you do it? Can I set my buff windows to take buffs in an order I set?

Any answers would clear this up

When it refers to buff slots it means how the game reads them. Like Tenacity can be cast on if you have no buffs, but if you have the druid buff Direwild skin, Tenacity will be blocked. But if you have Wunshi on and you can get Tenacity cast on you because Wunshi is for a different spot. It just has to do with not having every single hp, regen, mana buff stacking to make you all powerful. It doesn't matter in which order they are cast.

To block a buff you need to right click on the buff and a little window pops down, click "block buff". There is a way to block them in your EQ files but I don't know all the details. To unblock you can click you EQ button on the interface and I believe it's under player info (might need to be corrected there) and there is an option for blocked buffs and you can select them to unblock. I hope this help and I'm sure I will be corrected on some of it.

Yeah. The slots they mention has nothing to do with the order that buffs appear in your buff box in the gui. It's an internal arrangement in the software itself. Different buffs are organized into groups and fit into "slots". As a general rule, if you try to cast two spells of the same or similar type on a character only the more powerful will remain.

So if you cast tenacity on a character with conviction, the tenacity will overwrite the conviction since both use the same slot and tenacity is a higher level spell. Now, that's pretty obvious since one is a direct upgrade of the other, but as mentioned above there's a druid line that shares that same slot that will also block and be blocked.

As a general rule, you just kinda have to learn which spells block what. It's usually pretty clear (haste spells block eachother, ac/hp spells block eachother, +stat spells of similar stats block eachother, etc... Sometimes, the blocks can be a bit less obvious. There's a ranger line that adds atk that blocks the paladin line that adds hps. So you choose to have more hps or more atk. Both will stack with other buffs that affect similar things though (they're more like a "bonus" slot if that makes any sense).

It can be a little confusing, but over time you just get a feel for it. There is a logic to how the spells stack, but there's just too much to describe in one sitting.

Supposedly some debuffing mobs will strip your buffs from the top of the box, down (nothing to do with the slot number listed on the spell, but the actual box spot in your buff-box). So, if people are expecting to encounter a debuffing mob they will fill the top boxes with trash buffs putting their good buffs further down, so they have less chance to lose them.

Other debuffing mobs take buffs randomly, I think.

As others mentioned the druids and clerics main ac/hp lines don't stack, but there are ways to mix and match cleric and druid buffs for some nice extras. Beasties Vim will block Brells and there's a Ranger buff that must block something important as I always here people whining about it.

as i shaman i learned about buff stacking mostly through trial and error. i did notice when i was a lower level the order in which some buffs were cast could effect what would stack.

IE, if i did Altuna or kragg's (hp buff) then IoS (combo stat buff), then tried to do the individual stat buffs, str and dex would not stick. Though if i did the individual stat buffs first and then the hp buff and IoS they would all land.

to sum it up. done if different orders more buffs can be used and therefore riase stats higher.
Kraggs - IoS - 2 stat buffs
4 stat buffs - kraggs - IoS.

not real sure if this issue comes up in any other situations but i thought i would mention it.

p.s. im not considering the Charisma stat buff for this disscustion, just STR, DEX, AGI, and STA.
