Hi, i started playing in 2001 when i was 12 and have played periodically throughout the years, but i am never around to play the expansions when they come out so i miss out on all of those things. I was hoping people could answer some questions because i have started playing again and have up to gates of discord expansion. Ill come up with more later
What is shrouding, what expansion did it come out with(which do i need), what good is it?
What is progression?

not sure on the shroud expansion, but the usefulness is extensive.
1. you can shroud as a pet class and log off. when you log back on, you can unshroud and still have your pet fully equipped with pet toys. that can save money in the long run.
2. if you wanted to group with friends who are out of your level group, you or they, can 'shroud down' to a level appropriate shroud and still make experience with lower people.
3. shrouds have many different classes that come with spells. you can shroud to a certain class for example and buff your group with like a generic clarity, SoW, etc... then unshroud. you will not keep any buffs on you, but your group would stay buffed.
4. at low levels, you can shroud to a rogue and get into places you normally couldnt due to the fact that you can sneak and hide. (works awesome for the slipgear augment quest)

as for bags, you can so a very easy quest that you get from smithy bronson (i think thats his name), in crescent reach. you will need the serpents spine expansion for that. it is for the 'orehaulers haversack' or something like that. stats can be found on alla. quest takes maybe 10 minutes to complete. its a 10 slot, giant bag with 75% WR

hope this helps you out at least a little

Shrouding is good for completing one single quest at whatever level you like (Slipgear's Gem, the DoDh charm, you can shroud up as a rogue, have a mage summon you a bunch of levi rings and complete the entire charm run in <1 hour start to finish. Great fun, actually, check it out on THIS page). Other than that, I have yet to meet anyone in-game who actually uses shrouds.

Progression refers to two things; on a personal level, progression usually refers to your character's development, i.e. rise through the levels, better equipment, access to new zones etc., and the guild-level where you and your guild together completes certain tasks to gain access to each expansion's end zone. Plane of Time is one such end zone; to gain access to that zone you need about 20 'flags', which you and your guild win by spawning and killing the boss mob of a large number of zones in the Elemental Planes.

Maximum melee distance is the farthest you can be from a mob and still hit it. When you are NOT the main tank, you should generally speaking always be at maximum melee distance; you may avoid some of the tricks the mob has up it's sleeve, and you may be able to avoid taking aggro from the main tank.

Weight reduction (or just WR) bags; you can get 10% WR bags for 'free' in the Bazaar, or make them easily with tailoring at about 100. Go to the BAzar, search for 'token'. These tokens can be handed in to an NPC called Caerlyna (if I remember correctly) to get you bag (have an inventory slot open). But just by looking at the tokens, you can see how much WR each type gives. Some types can be handmade, some can be quested for, so once you have the names, ALT+Tab out of EQ and look them up here and on EQTraders.

Another common shroud trick is using the unlocked evil eye enchanter to easily and quickly complete the Overthere Hammer quest.

Several of the first level shrouds also get the "Wildspeed" buff that is more or less a SoW. Using the fairy enchanter to cast this also gives you the option of purchasng the shroud's spell casting reinforcement AAs which will lengthen the buff of course.

Also of mild use, the Kobold Rogue (unlockable from the Kobold Cleric / humanoid line) gets a Fake Death spell which is mildly useful in situations.

So yeah, there's more than one use for shrouds, but it is still rather limited. I've used them in the past to group with friend's low level characters and such, but past the lower range of levels I doubt anyone would actually enjoy using them in battle as they are rather limited and weak compared to a true character.

Sorry for another newbie question, but . . .

How do you get to Crescent Reach from PoK?

There is a stone marked Crescent Reach in PoK, just south of the Nexus stone and west of the Qeynos stone. That takes you to Blightfire Moor which connects to Crescent Reach at the West of the zone.

Take a bit of care around the mobs in Blightfire Moors (zone between pok and crescent) as some of the mobs there are rather dangerous for their level, especially if they aggro and gang up on you.

I learned this the hard way last night.

Another dumb question, but I'm beating my head against the keyboard. Where on EQ Atlas can I find Blightfield Moors?!

EQAtlas hasn't been updated since... Pre-GoD? Years now, anyway. That means that a LOT of zones now are missing. It's a pity, those maps are still amazingly beautiful, unlike mapfiend's. And when I browse through my old tattered and coffee-stained prints of EQAtlas, I can still remember back in the day when someone got lost somewhere and people would think I was superhuman because I could come pick them up and lead them out :D
