I have been away from EQ for about 4 years.
(I quit just after Luclin launched)
I am considering coming back, but I wanted to get up to speed on what the game is like now.
I read through the posts and sites online and see so many things
that are new to me, but seem common knowledge to everyone else.
Some basic questions, if someone would mind helping, such as:
Where can I find information about augmentation?
(what it is, what can be done, with what, etc.)
Does anyone actually buy and use horses? or is it just a status symbol?
Several other questions.
Also...
My play time is limited to about 2 hours every other day and perhaps some extra on weekends.
Is it worth it to pay to play for that amount of game time?
What I mean is this. Will I be able to find guilds, groups, etc. to join with in such limited time? Would I be able to level and loot enough? Would my limited playing time be a liability to me and any guild that might consider me?
I understand we all have schedules and a life beyond EQ (dare I speak of it.)
I understand this is an opinion based question. I would like some idea of what its really like since I've left. No, I don't want to download the demo. I don't like demos.

If this is too long a message I apologize. I would appreciate any insight.

Come back. :-)

My partner and I just restarted after a break - 2-3 years for me and a year or so for her. I left with GoD so at least was familiar with PoK book travel.

having played other games whilst away, I can honestly say that - playing on Erollisi Marr - it is completely worth it, even with only a few hours a week to devote to it.

In coming back we have started over on new servers, from level 1, and levelling (with hotzones etc) has been fun and a lot easier than first time around. The game is huge - substantially larger than when I left out which was after you - and the bazaar is still the same mix of hawkers, honest brokers and conmen. However daunting the prices, it's still possible to make cash and I've been surprised by how many of the prices of regular pieces are similar to how they were on a different server a few years back.

We've not regretted coming back to EQ. Other games are prettier and slicker, more involved in certain aspects, but EQ creates a sense of scale and freedom that I've not felt, even in Vanguard.

Will you find groups? Yes... Good ones and bad ones as was always the case and though it can be a little harder, especially with a population spread through more zones, we've had some good times already and met some fantastic players who really enjoy their community.
