Crashing After Upgrading TexturesFollow

#1 Aug 30 2007 at 11:05 PM Rating: Decent
I just recently got back into EQ. I reinastalled Patched and played no problem. Then i noticed you could upgrade the textures. So i did it. And it played fine till i was playing for about an hr and a half. I openend my potion belt and the thing crashed. Ever since then right when i click enter world on a toon after it loads it crashes on the loading screen. Im currently reinstalling and repatching. but what could i do to fix it if i wanted to upgrade the textureS? I already made sure my video drivers and everything checked out.

Upon reinstalling. After many successful hours it crashed again. I got to the bottom of it. It worked after i deleted the files as instructed in the Support section of the Station website. Also the Character Files i delete and it worked again. Anyone know why the UI is acting up??

What exactly did you do to upgrade textures? I'm assuming you're talking about terrain / model textures. If so, it wouldn't be a UI problem, necessarily, and most likely not, unless a secondary effect of a UI. With the same assumption, the problem is most likely a texture file, or a memory issue (i.e. bad memory location(s), not enough memory for the textures, etc.).

If it's something else you're upgrading, and even if not, what UI are using? If it is the default one, delete all the files in the everquest/uifiles/default directory and do a thorough file scan to make sure they are updated. You might also look at everquest/UIErrors.txt file.

Just now looking at my UIErrors.txt file, it looks like they've made more changes to the UI since the last announced change, as I have more errors than normal on my custom UI. All of them only relating to the new Item Display window however.

More details almost always help.

Yther Ore.

I think he hit the new "upgrade textures" button on the new launchpad. THis is to bring some of the "old world" zones up to date.

Yikes! I've decided to upgrade my textures since the server's were down and it's still updating...I was kinda hoping to see more awesome graphics but now there's a report of it being buggy? I certainly hope I don't have that issue...would there really be a way to reverse it if there is?

Update...I really haven't noticed an "Improvement" in any graphics..old or new. Actually no change at all to be honest except finer detail, but I'd have to flip back and forth to a before and after screen to notice. But luckily no crashing either.

Yeah. I diagnosed my problem. Its a UI error. Seems everytime i hit the P (or bracket buttom i dont know which, eg."[/:]) It crashes and says this is the UI Errors file

"[Sat Sep 08 13:25:10 2007] Error: Could not find child IDW_ItemInfo12 in window ItemDisplayWindow"

I have no idea what that is. but i just aboid accidently hitting those keys.

Go into the options window, and to the keyboard settings and remap the customer service window from P to <esc> (hitting escape will remove all key settings.)
