Come Back? (Please Read/Respond)Follow

#1 Aug 04 2007 at 8:09 PM Rating: Default
I've been debating for awhile on whether or not it's worth the money to come back. I haven't played in a while, probably a couple years or so. I have been playing WoW and I'm in the military and I've been hoping to get input from others on whether or not I should come back. I had a lot of fun w/ it EQ since I first started long ago, but all of my friends/family that play online play WoW. So I'd be missing out on all of that play. I'm on Tribunal (Ayonae Ro) and was just hoping to get some input on thoughts if the servers still have enough to people to play after the game has been going this long and so many people have left for WoW and other games. Please respond w/ thoughts. Thanks in advance.

there are still people playing, 99 percent of whome are in the raiding game. there is little to no low and mid level game anymore. there is little to no grouping anymore. you solo, or double box and you raid. little to nothing else.

if you raid, there is no better game to play. if you have gotten used to the no pressure time friendly game play in WoW, it will be like swimming in molasses to start playing EQ again unless you already have a level 65 plus toon and want to raid.

you can buy the annaversary expansion pack with all 13 expansions for 20 bucks, so cost is no biggie to come check it out. i did. it was fun revisiting the old stomping grounds, all be it they were totally empty of other players. was worth the 20 bucks for me just to visit. that and you get 3 free weeks to boot, so you have 2 and a half weeks before it costs you more than the 20 bucks to decide if you want to stay or not.

was worth the trip for me. i did leave however and went back to WoW where there was actually something to do below the level cap other than sitting in some corner grinding experience. i dont raid, so its just not for me. hasnt been in a long time. but its fun to go home again once in a while.

do it. its only 20 bucks to find out.

Why do you play online games?
Answer that and you can answer why you should come back or stay away.

Some folks make the decision all the time. My guild has lost 2 folks to LOTR and regained 2 from WOW.
Server pop is down all over, but the game still moves along. You can find groups at all levels, using the hot zones especially.

I think now is a great time to come back.

i've seen ALOT of new players lately and its completely the opposite to shadowrelm's thoughts. Probably around 60% of a servers population are high time raiders, others are in casual guilds with alts/bots etc. There is no problem getting in a group no matter what the level on stormm.

heres a little check i did.
In the tutorial-12 players
guild lobby- 66 players
PoK- 87 players
AC (55 hotspot)-15 players
DS (50 hotspot)- 20 players
wos- 36 players

these were taken at early morning UK times so the server is going to be at its quietest.

if u come back, get off that dam bluebie server an do zek. i can assure u, that u wont b bored... i left like almost 2 years ago. all because a compter shhited out on me. an i still plan on coming back. i have a whole list of things to do upon my return from researching, an trying to stay upto date on quests...

an i played WOW. i leveled up some hunter in my down time, between house poker tournaments, on a friends computer... he came back an was puzzled at how i had managed to gather some platinum already in 1 session... i was like " are u kidding me? i havent died yet, an i just been questing an killing... this games boring as hell. but i really love the time consuming forage. lol" so thats my wow experience. then i hear how u can solo upto the level limit... an besides the graphics of blizzard... i have no idea why people play that crap.

do up a character on zek... see what its like to try an level being hunted... i swear the game reminds me of necromunda ( a dice, an minutre simulation game) where u run around in the darkness getting pounced on people an betrayed by your would be friends. while slaughtering the the masses with your established buds. i'd suggest a cleric. theyr'e sick come the end game now PVE... an pvp u shouldnt die to much. an it'll help u make friends an find groups.

Yes, there is lots of new content to supplement all the wonderful old stuff. There are still lots of people around, and, like learning to ride a bike, you never forget how...so, a shallow re-entry curve. Smiley: grin

As someone mentioned, it's only 20 bucks to get the anniversary edition which is ALL expansions, and then 15 for a month's service.

But do you really want to be talked back into it?
Why do you need to be encouraged if you enjoyed the game in the past?
Because a lot of what took people out is still around.

Couldn't help but disagree, the population is not 99% raid oriented, I'd believe it to be an exaggeration to even claim 80% was truly raid oriented.

And there is grouping as well, if you can't ever find a group, you are doing something very wrong. There aren't groups just hunting you down as you log on and inviting you, but the slightest bit of effort and you can find a group. The only times finding a group can be a true issue is during the off hours, and if you are still motivated (i.e. building a group yourself instead of standing in pok complaining about no groups being out there to invite you.) you can get groups going even then. So many times there is a perfect group out there just waiting to be formed, but no one to take the lead and actually get the ball rolling.

Use the LFG tool (though way too many forget about it whichs hampers its usefulness), Use the general chat channel(s), head to the hotzones and simply ooc that you are LFG once you arrive. Remember those that you grouped with and wouldnt mind doing so with again.

It isn't hard, at all, I do it all the time when I'm on. I was part of 3 pickup groups last Friday alone. I don't think I have ever had a real challenge in getting a group if I wanted one, unless it was extremely early/late in the day.

And that just addresses pick-up grouping, finding groups/people to go adventuring with is dead simple if you simply find a quality guild, though in my opinion, this is probably one of the biggest reasons pick up grouping is less widespread than in the past. Simply put, people would rather go grouping with friends and guildies that they know and trust rather than play out the risk of grouping with strangers. I'm guilty of doing it at times myself as well.

Anyways, where was I going with this? Ahh, who knows, I'll just end it here...

I have to disagree slightly. I guess it depends from server to server, but on mine groups are few and far between, when I'm not boxing. I think that most folk stay within their guilds and guild alliances for PUG's. Looking over the guild looking for players tool in the lobby and it seems I found 2 guild types, 1 raid or die 1000+aa's required bla bla bla and the we take anyone any level but you dont seem to see many of their members on at any given time.

On a positive there are some new players to the game in the general channels, but most of the lower zones are ghost towns. Frankly I like that I can go somewhere old and play with out trains, fights in /occ and general BS.

Only you can answer the question on if it's worth the money to come back. That's an entirely personal opinion.

However, I was bouncing around servers to check how many players where in the tutorial and the New Players channel and I was impressed. On many servers, even on a slow server like FV, there were lots of newbies running around and some were true newbies asking true-newbish questions. The Combine tutorial was jam-packed.

There's hope for EQ yet! Smiley: clap

a couple of the leading end-game guilds populate vaz/ms now

there is/are still many, many players of different levels about

as i regularly buff anyone/everyone in pok

i have a lot of requests for temp, virt and conviction

so i'd have to say that there are peeps of all levels about

leastwise on vaz/ms

which seems good given "a couple of the leading end-game guilds populate vaz/ms now" ;)
