i came back for the three free weeks, i will tell you what i found.
the world is why i came back. it is hands down the best in the gaming community. the starting cities just cry...home. the world is why i always come back from time to time.
my main was also a 65 necro. the only place i found people grouping where in the Wall of Slaughter and people doing "dain" missions in icewell keep. and usually, only one or two groups total in those places during peak hours on the Rathe anyway. just not a whole lot of grouping going in at all anywhere.
the two latest expansions are where the big guilds are. every thing else behind is empty and abandoned except for double/triple boxers and an occaisional soloer.
ALL of the starting cities are empty. people log on to the cave tutorial and level to 10 there, and then head to cresent reach, a new starting area with better quests. they changes some of the starting areas and low level zones too. made them smaller and combined them. oasis of mar and south roe are one zone now, adn there is no north freeport anymore. they are scavanging the older content to take up less bandwidth i guess.
and even though everyone does those two areas, you are lucky to find more than 20 people in either at any given time, and vey very very lucky if you find a group. the best i did, after starting characters on stromm, progression, zek, rathe and a couple others was an ocaisional duo. 3 weeks of trying and the only full group i was in was the dain missions in icewell keep where it doesnt matter what class you are. they are kind of fun the first 2 or 3 times you do them too. then not so much. a grind like everything else.
over all, for me, nothings changed except they are butchering the starting areas which is really the only reason i come back from time to time. so far, they havent touched unrest or mistmore, but it wont be long i figure.
as far as necro goes, you can still aggro kite just fine. but root doesnt stick to much, and fear, even the level 57 tripedation, doesnt stick on anything 51 or higher. dont even bother meming it for an escape spell. feign death still works, but they remember alot more often. you need to zone or reboot when you use it, i cant remember once when i used it in those weeks that the monster didnt come back for me even after staying down for a while. that was mostly in the steeps zone.
blues at level 65 quad for 400 to 500 a pop. better have some decent gear. you can bind yourself in the guild lobby off of POK now and pay 100pp to summon your corpse there. there is almost always a cleric there to pay for a rez. there is almost NEVER a cleric in any other zone to get a rez from, so bind there as soon as possible. also, with the guild lobby and the lack of grouping of any kind, your essence emeralds are more useless now than they ever were at any other time in the game. your summon corpse spells? sell your coffins, you will never use them outside of a raid.
so, root mostly usless, summon corpse useless, fear useless, fd requires a reboot or zone to wipe aggro. i have the COB 65 pet. it doesnt hit any harder than the last one but it does have a 12 point damage sheild. it can go 3 or 4 rounds of melee with a blue mob before dieing, so you dont have alot of time to regain aggro if you loose it. you get an add, dont look back, just head for the zone. there is no saving it. cant tank for sheit. fortunatly, you dont need a peridot to summon it anymore, it works on bone chips. and at 66 it is light blue to you, so im thinking its level 55 to 57 max.
was like one of those dreams when you are trying to run but can only crawl.
basically, if your not coming back to raid, it will feel like grinding levels in molasses after playing other games.
that was my experience anyway.
