Hi all,
Just led my first raid last night. Total failure. Not due to party wipe, not due to groups leaving, but the raid mobs weren't there. We scouted the previous night, and Vox and Naggy were both in their lairs, but Raid Night came, with open invitations, and when we finally fought our way there, both were gone. Our Guild Leader had been advertising all week about this raid. Was this a mistake? How can I prevent getting sniped like this again? We had 18 raiders completely disappointed because our raid mobs (1 WEEK timers, both!) were already dead.

Any help would be appreciated.

PS, I'm on the Tunare server.

Beyond mobilizing immediately when you find the mobs up, there isn't a whole lot you can do. One thing I'd recommend, is always having a back up plan or two, that way at least everyone's time isn't wasted if your mobs are down. Also, get someone to scout for you the night of the raid. Druids, rangers and bards all work pretty well for this, since they can track and whatnot. Many of my favorite memories are running around on my bard seeing what targets were up. It made me feel all vital and stuff.

Have a higher level rogue wiht SoS scout the mobs right before you begin fighting your way there. Have a third and fourth mob as backup, like Faydedar, Phinigel Autropos, Venril Sathir, or Lord Rak`Ashiir

There is not anything you can do about this. Mobs are up, anyone can go kill them unless you do raids in instanced zones. Sitting in PoK and advertising that Naggy and/or Vox is up and you are going to hold a raid on them tomorrow is a good way to make sure someone else beats you to them and takes them out.

Also, before dragging a raid through a zone send in a scout (rogue with SoS or shroud rogue) to make sure the targets are up so you don't waste people's time.

Shroud rogue won't make it there, there are see invis mobs before the main mob target, you would need a rogue with SoS. Most higher level rogues would be happy to do the scouting just for the thrill, at least for vox, naggy is more of a ***** to get to with the twisty tunnels.

Wouldn't a tracker be able to pick them up easy enough...from a safe distance?

About raids:

I'd suggest first, having a set time each week to do raids, so people can plan around them. Second have multiple targets and then, as mentioned elsewhere, have a scout available, and start scouting out targets a couple hours in advance.

As a fallback, if you can find no available targets you can do LDoN raids (instanced).

Also, you may want to see if you can find out if there are other guilds doing 50's raiding content on your server, and ask if you can share schedules to avoid the above situation.

Stick with it. Raiding is one of the EQ's greatest assests, but it takes patience, perseverence and organization.

...

I may be a bit behind the times but I would agree. Having multipal targets just in case is a good idea ,but spamming in pok isnt a good idea IMHO. A well geared group could just run there to kill Naggy just cuz they can. A set time of 1 day or so a week to go after something would help.

Actually, level 70 shroud rogue gets the SoS ability so a shroud rogue can work as long as it is done by a level 70+ toon.

Very old school raiding issue actualy.

Druid can track Naggy from near sol A zone line in sol B. Vox can be tracked from goblin king area. Run a tracker over and check for them only if there up do you start heading to them.

Sad truth is there are people that play game that get off on ruining fun for others. So it may well be that vox and naggy were killed by people who didnt know you were planning to hit them but it also may have been a delibrate act to grief you. You will probaly never know the real answer.

My advice is dont annouce target until your ready to head to them outside of guild and tell guild to keep there mouths shut about posable targets. The anger and feeling that guild is being delirately disrespected when a publicly anounced raid gets jumped are not worth the benefits of being open about your raid plans.

May be a better idea to not even inform the guild as to what the target is until your ready to move on it. " Loose lips sink ships"

Thank you all very much. I will take these suggestions (I sense a theme running through them...) to heart and do as you say. Again thank you for your time and advice.
