well, i'm trying to get to surefall glade and the field of bone, but i can't seem to find any good way to find where i am going most of the time.

the map/atlas only help a little when you are in a certain area, but the don't tell you where you will end up or how you can get to where you want to go in the first place.

does anyone have any ways of being able to travel from one place to another from a decent point of direction or anyway to gain knowledge to how to go anywhere necessary?? is it possible to do so from an npc?

Best thing to do is learn the layout of the land of Norrath. Try looking at http://www.eqatlas.com/ maps and connections. Next thing, is PoK is the general departure point for most places.

The Nexus is also a point of depature, but it's generally faster to run, since it's only active every 15-20 mins (I forget the exact timing).

You may also want to note on the maps where the druid ring and wizzy spires are, as you can get ports to almost all of them, as well as use the Guild Portal (if you're in a guild, and have DoN expansion I think it came with) to many of the druid locations also.

As for Field of Bone, there is a stone in PoK labeled Cabilis that will take you to FoB. Surefall Glade you can get a few ways, but from PoK you take the Qeynos stone to South Qeynos to Qeynos Hills to SFG.

I'd also recommend downloading in-game maps from mapfiend or eqmaps, they'll save you loads of trouble and downtime and help ALOT.

When you open up your in-game map window, there is a selection to view the world atlas. From this atlas view you can view the continents/expansions of the game and click on them to view the zone connections within them. If you haven't downloaded the in-game maps, then when you click on the zone names, you'll only have the basic maps that SoE provides. As others have suggested, download the map packs from mapfiend or eqmaps, for a much easier time navigating around Norrath.

There's a few different ways to reach most of each of the 13 expansions, and most of them can be reached within 2 zones of the PoK. I've listed a few of the quickest ways below (not counting wizzy/druid ports):

Classic - various pok stones, various guild ports
Kunark - various pok stones, various guild ports
Velious - various pok stones, various guild ports
Luclin - PoK >> Nexus, various guild ports
PoP - PoK >> PoTranquility
LoY - PoK >> Gunthak
LDoN - Magus in Lobby, PoK >> Butcherblock
GoD - Magus in Lobby >> Magus in Nedaria >> Abysmal Sea, guild port to Barindu
OoW - Priest of Discord near Library entrance in PoK, guild port to WoS
DoN - PoK >> Nektulos >> Lavastorm, guild port to Lavastorm
DoD - PoK >> Nektulos >> Corathus Creep, guild port to Undershore
POR - PoK >> Freeport(Wizzie Tower) >> Arcstone, guild port to Arcstone
TSS - PoK >> Blightfire Moors, guild port to Goru'kar Mesa
TBS - PoK(Paineel Stone) >> Toxxulia >> Barren Coast, guild port to Katta

Have fun exploring all the expansions. There is a lot to see, and the list above is by far, not even close to being a complete list of ways to get around the huge gameworld, but they will get your foot in the door.
