I used to play from the time EQ started until a little bit before Velious. I just got back into it last week because of the three weeks free deal and I have a couple of questions. I'm on Erollisi Marr and I'm wondering is it pretty much a dead server? The only time I saw people there were in the tutorial and maybe 30 people at any given time in PoK. I have gone through several cities without seeing anyone, didn't see anyone in Blackburrow nor Crushbone. Now since I'm a druid I can solo but I was hoping to get some old school EQ action in and hit places like Mistmoore but obviously I can't do that by myself. Just wondering if I should try to get on another server and if you have any suggestions on which ones are more populated. Or if anybody knows any guilds on this server that do this kind of thing that would be a help too. Also I went to EC to see the bazaar and that was empty. Did people just stop going there? Last time I was on you had to look real hard for the things you wanted because so many people were shouting it would be gone in a little bit.

edit

Also I'm getting a Mac in a couple of weeks, do they use the same servers as pc or will I have to make a new guy?

Mac is on it's own server.

30 in PoK sounds a bit low especially for a weekend. Druzzil Ro usually has 50+ all weekend and most of the time during the week 'cept the slow times, and I think Druzzil is kinda sparse on people.

To find people in old world content, you'll have to follow the hot zones (see link to left).

Since Luclin there is a real bazaar zone with actual player merchants and buyers which you can find from PoK or the Nexus or Shadow Haven.

Can't help with anything specific to E.Marr though :( Maybe someone else can on those points.

Isn't the mac server level limited?

Just something I remember from somewhere...

Hi Ccaprice, you have a lot of catching up to do.

The bazaar is now an automated function. You click on one of the "open book" pedestals to get to the Plane of Knowledge, which is a hub for many newbie zones. One of the great entry ways on one of the walls of the zone will take you to the bazaar, the other the guild lobby. Simply approach the large door to zone. Use your map feature to find out where the zone-in to the bazaar is. Buy a "trader's satchel" from merchant tekrama, go stand on the wood platforms deeper inside the zone, and type /bazaar and /trader. /trader is where you set prices for your goods. Bazaar is a browsing / search function - and it's very handy. You also have the option to turn off all other traders (make them invis) so that your computer won't lag - also very handy, as there are often more than 500 other people in the bazaar.

for the most part, EQ is a different game from when you last played. I recommend strongly that you have all expansions, at least up through Serpent's Spine (all except Burning Sea). East and West commons have merged, as have South Ro and Oasis, and even West and North Freeport. There are close to 450 zones in the game now (I've completely lost count). You probably won't find much luck with the old newbie zones. The exp and the loot are poor, and since there are so many zones, the players have much more room to "spread out" in. I advise following the advice of the poster above me and sticking with the hot zones.

There are new races, new classes, tons of new quests, new spells, new items galore - too much for most folks to keep track of, and that's the beauty of it. I recently started up a toon on Zek - it's better now since no one can loot your corpse if they pk you. There are a large number of sub-lvl 50's on zek. I also hear that there are a lot of people on Stromm.

P.S. Playing with a mac is a bad idea - you're basically limited to Planes of Power (which came out in summer of '03, i.e., ancient history).

Hope this helps.

Not just basically, literally... And if you think server populations are bad on PC, I wonder what they are like on Mac?

You will never find people in old zones like Blackburrow or the like any more, get the Serpent's Spine expansion (anniversary edition for $20) and go over to Crescent Reach, there are usually a lot of people there. At low level you are basically limited to 5 options: Solo, Group in The Serpent's Spine, group in hotzones, monster missions or get powerleveled- monster missions or powerleveling not advised for new players.

As a druid you can solo well so at least you won't be stuck LFG for ages.

Wow! Kunark to now, that is a huge change.

Actually EQ is a completely different game from what you will recal of Kunark.

There were huges changes with Luclin, bigger changes with PoP and post LDoN with real instancing another series of major changes.

Low population in PoK is not necessarily a bad sign. On The Rathe you are just as likely to find as many people in Lavastorm, heading off to do DoN missions.

And TSS (The Serpents Spine) and TBS (The Broken Shore) is where you will find the most action these days. I didn't check the numbers but OOC was as active as ever in TBS on the weekend.

Coming back from Kunark, I would recommend doing the tutorial, take a new character up to level 10 there and get the feel for all the new UI and command nuances. It will be worth the time spent.

Hard to say what the current equivilent to Blackburrows would be today, I haven't levelled a new character in TSS so don't know if there is a BB equivilent there, but there is an Over There equivilent in The Steppes, good kiting there for a Druid /wink.

On The Rathe, I see most of the players in the "hot zones"

Also:

1-10 in Gloomingdeep Mines (the Tutorial)

10-20 in Crescent Reach in the Hollows (the newbi yard)

Plaudal Caverns is still popular with the teenaged toons

The Commonlands is crawling with 10 - 25 toons doing the Sunshard Quest for the plentiful agititatied skeletons and dusty mummys. A long process at that level, but good groupage and loot that can be sold nearby for cash.

20-30 toons hunt in Blightfire Moors with the new short-cut to Highpass Hold

I am not really sure where the 30-40 level toons are hiding. But the Barren Coast is really popular with the 50+ looking for cash, short quests for faction and gear, and decent experience.

On E. Marr, it is about the same except for the Commonlands and Barren Coast. Apparently most of the 50+ haven't found out about it.

I transferred my emarr tunes to Povar back in Feb. but that was to get them all on the same server/guild.
Emarr at the time seemed a bit slow but I could always find some groups for my 64 cleric and 52 paladin.
