Returning to EQ gone wrongFollow

#1 Jun 03 2007 at 1:48 AM Rating: Decent
O.K., where do I start? O, yes, I'm returning to EQ from about a 4-5 year long break (became addicted to it and realized that it was time to let go,). Well about 4-5 years ago they didn't have 13+ expansions out yet, so now i'm about to order the EQ Anniversary Edition so I don't have to mess with everything anymore. Well anyway, I tried to install the EQ expansions that i have, they are Trilogy, The Ruins of Kunark, The Scars of Velious, Shadows of Luclin, Planes of Power and Lost Dungeons of Norrath. Yes I know that I am way outdated =), this is before I knew about the Anniversary deal. Anyway, I installed everything just fine and dandy, then untill I reached the horrifying patch screen with the advertising of The Buried Sea expansion. I was prepared for there to be some updating and everything but I had absolutely no clue that it would be about 5 days and 13 hours long. Then i thought, well it's probably becuase i don't have the expansions where the expansions already have the patches and everything already on them. So my question is should i just buy the anniversary deal and then i won't have to download 5 days worth of updates or do i have to update that much no matter what?

Thanks. Any help is appreciated and I know i'm way outdated.

Buy them. You'll still have some patching to do, but not 5 days. What connection are you playing on? It sounds awfully bad.

No, my connection isn't the problem. I'm running using a wireless network. The Router is a Lynksys G and im using a Linksys USB Wireless Receiver. My connection usually runs at about 54.0 Mbps, which is pretty good for being all the way on the third floor and the router being on the 1st floor. The long patch time is because I have never patched EQ or even had it installed on this system, and it's patching everything from whenever The Lost Dungeons of Norrath came out. Thats about a 3-4 year patch period, so if you think about it, it's pretty reasonable. Just not liked.

I think i'm just going to order the Anniversary Edition from Best Buy and call it a day.

It still has to be partly your connection, if you download just the patcher from the website, and download all the expansions, without installing anything, but the patcher file, it doesn't say 5 days for me. It does say around 20hrs or something, iirc. I re-downloaded most of the game not too long ago, and it also took less time than it originally said. I don't recall the total time, but around 12hrs if I remember correctly. There's a link to patcher download in one of these threads called something like patcher trouble.

You might try it out, and see how it goes with that, especially, if you only download the expansions you currently have on your disks. Ok, I just redid in a different directory the patcher to see how long it would take. Original game only, 1h 45m, All expansions upto PoP, 3h. All expansion, 26h. And like I said, it actually went faster than the estimates, the last time I had to download a large amount.

I'd still wait on the disks, unless your account is already active, then cancel the download, hit Advanced, and select just the expansions you have active on your account, so you can play until the disks get to you.

Yeah, Thanks. It probably does have something to do with connection. I'm just gonns wait on disks and then try the patcher. I don't have a active account yet. But I might try to revive my old account I just can't remember all the info on it.

On a Comcast cable connection, me being on a Wi-Fi that was built in, it only took me about 15 hours of patching, to patch the game, download all the expansion files. So something isn't right with your patcher then.

My advice:

Get 7th Anniversary Edition. Load it up! Register the expansions with the key in the box on account management page if you remember your old log in ID and password, do a complete file check in advanced options. More downloads!

Uninstall any previous versions of EQ, if they exist on your computer!

I had two separate sets of files. Unloaded the older one, and now the game is running great!

BTW, Everquest is as amazing as Ever!

I have one more question. If I wanted to retrieve my old Account how would I go about doing that? Do i need to install EQ and then when I need to connect in will there be a option? It looks like i'm just going to get the Annicersary Edition and try the patcher again. Could the slowness of the patcher have to do with the fact that i'm in Germany? Any comments are welcome (good or bad).

Yeah, that could be the reason, could also be, just a lag spike or two, from interference with the wireless, etc. You could try letting the patcher run for 15-20mins and see if starts dropping faster than real time. It often underestimates the time required.

There are ways to get your info back, but I'm not sure of the details. You can find them on Sony's customer support site however. And if all you're missing is your password, if the email account you assigned to your EQ account is still valid, you just request a new one be sent to your email.

Raiding atm, or I'd give the links to the customer support site :(

Hope this helps.

This thread answers that question.

If you install the new anniversary edition and then uninstall the old everquest games, do you lose your UI and hot buttons that you have set up?

I'd think that if you try to install EQ ( e.g. from the Anniversary edition) when you already have EQ installed, all that will happen is that the Anniversary Edition will add new files to your already-existing EQ folder - where your personal settings are stored too.

The traditional way of doing this is to just start the patcher, go into 'Advanced' and tick off all the expansions - the files would then end up in your first EQ folder. Much easier than installing form the disks, and you get the most current files that way - if you install from the disks, you have to patch afterwards anyway.
