In Honor of my Brother RIPFollow

No one loved this game as much as my brother. He started playing in 1999 when it was in beta testing. He got me hooked, I hooked my then 17 year old son and he hooked ALL his friends. It couldn't have been more fun and the bonding that developed between my son and I over this game.... At one point we had 5 computers set up around the house and we'd have all weekend EQ parties. Every conversation was about EQ. I got to know his friends well. We were able to avoid the drugs and alcohol experimentation as he and his friends spent most nights here playing EQ. You can't put a price on something like that and I owe it all to my brother, Rich.
However, as I like to say, "Sometimes real life gets in the way of Everquest". Dad got sick and passed away, then Mom followed. I was away from the game for four years. Then, unexpectedly, I found my brother dead at his house, literally at his computer. He was only 53. A few months after he passed, I fired up his computer. Guess what he was doing when he died? He was at AllaKazam.com and EQ records show he was logged into EQ when the coroner set the time of death. Appropriate.
To that end, my brother was a mid 50's Enchanter on the Mith Marr (Sayrn) server. His name was Chanteen Lightbender. A few months ago, I reloaded EQ, was pleased to see all my stuff was still intact, and started playing again. My main is a Ranger that just hit 60 and I've leveled my Enchanter, Tofranil, to 40. I noticed that I'd never given Tofranil a last name. What would be better then Lightbender, in honor of my brother. EQ won't let me use Lightbender however. Is there some way to appeal this?

My sincere condolences on the passing of your brother. Though it brings a smile to my face to hear how close your family came together because of EQ. My wife and I have been playing now for a few years, and it has brought us closer as well. When she became ill about 6 years ago, we suddenly were unable to do any of the things we had always done together, and in not making the transition very well, our marriage had a great deal of trouble. The acitivities we had done while dating and in the first few years of our marriage were suddenly taken from us and we didn't have anything to replace them with. Then came EQ, but more importantly, the people in EQ, the friends we found and made and still have. Our son is almost 8, and our hope is that in a few years he will join us in Norrath a well. If nothing else, we will find a game that we can all play together. Your account of how your son and his friends would all play EQ all weekend sounds like a grand time, and I hope we can do similar with our son and his friends.

As for you getting your brother's surname, I'm kinda surprised it didn't let you have it. I surnamed a baby alt shammy only to discover the next day that a guildie had the same last name on his main. It let me have it with no fuss.
