It takes me between 5-30 minutes to zone into the GL or from GL to PoK, or even logging in, from the moment I log into EQ and select my server.

Anyone know a way to fiz this?

Processor: 1.6GHz
Ram: 512
V-Memory: 128 Shared Memory
HDD: 80Gig at 7200rpm

You are VERY short on memory (RAM). You are running Windows XP, I presume? If you've seen any of my replies in the other posts on this subject, it is my experience that running anything but XP itself on a computer with 512 Mb RAM (or less) is rather optimistic. When you add to that that you are using up to 128 of those 512 on video, there's just not enough left to do a decent job of running the application.

The quick fix is to buy another 512 Mb RAM, the next step up is to get an nVidia 6600 GT or better (or the corresponding ATI model - someone else will tell you what that is) graphics card, and the third step is to upgrade to the best processor your motherboard will handle.
If you do that, you should get a significant performance increase for - relatively - few bucks.

www.tomshardware.com will give you a LOT of answers on both state-of-the-art and performance maximisation.

Good luck

Yeah, I know it's the ram, and am going to buy a 1 gig stick. Only downfall with vcard and processor, is that it's a laptop.

It will run fine with a bit more ram, not at the best graphic settings of course, but with lowered ones you should have no zoning ills of that magnitude...

...assuming your computer isnt mucked up with tons of programs slowing it down at the same time you are running EQ.

I try to keep the essentials up, like nothing except wi-fi.

I don't look for eye candy. Just play candy.

When traveling I play on my laptop. Lame Intel Video, 1.6 gig Mobile Centrino and 1 gig ram. Runs great! I set options to the lowest settings and models. When I upgraded to the 1 gig of ram it made a HUGE difference.

Yeah, I'm looking to upgrade it to 1.5Ghz so I can do some band recording.

On another note, I just dinged level 40 last night, so I have only 35 more levels to go.

first check to be sure you have an AGP slot since you have on board video, if you do get a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro great card for EQ for around 60 bucks from the company that lays eggs (hint) Go to all classic models, turn sound off, turn off spell effects /showspelleffects off, run the game at 800 X 600 resolution, mip mapping on, high for quality this has helped someone with the same problem you face a lot, if you dont have an AGP slot your just screwed with that machine.

The ATI Radeon 9600 pro chip is so great because it dont require extra power from the power supply the Geforce 6600 GT does, since it is a budget machine your power supply most likely is going to be low watts 200-240 ish

If you get the card make sure you turn off vertex shaders (takes a lot of processing power) and pixel shaders 2.0 and the new water under EQ advanced display tab you can keep 1.1 and 1.4 pixel shaders

Good Luck

Already been said once by Kupo, but, it's a laptop. =p

Oh, and Kupo, what type of internet connection do you normally play on while experiencing the lengthy zone times?

No it doesn't. Rate down for you, for talking when you don't have your facts straight.

Edit: Oh, and strike two: a 9600 ATI is nearly two generations older than a 6600. (ATI and nVidia are on slightly different cycles)

Wireless router? If so, theres probably at least a wild chance the wireless internet may not be helping your cause if it is giving you a weak signal or if some other device is causing interference with it. (I live out of a hotel 80% of the year, I've had those things affect me way too often.)

Yeah, I keep mentioning to try and use a Ethernet, but I have to run into work before i get that chance, and my router is located in my parents bedroom, so late night EQ on an Ethernet cable is outa the question. I seem to always have a "perfect" connection to the router.

3 out of my 5 computers play through wireless with no problems at all. You problem is definately related to low RAM. I added 1 gig to my laptop to get me to 2 gigs and it made a huge difference in how fast I zone. If you have the option to pull the half gig out and put in 2 1 gigs to get you to 2 gigs you'll be the happiest.

Aye, but money factor, let's throw in 1 gig and bring it up 75% of the way to 1.5 gigs.

From my experience, the gains in replacing the 512 and making it 2.0 gigs versus 1.5 would be minimal considering around that point you'll get a much lower returning performance increase as other parts of the computer will become your new bottleneck.

The latest AGP specification calls for a maximum of around 45W of power to be delivered via the AGP slot itself, while a PCI Express x16 slot can supply up to 75W. Because of the reduction in power that can be delivered via the slot interface, the GeForce 6600GT AGP requires the use of a 4-pin molex connector on the board itself to deliver extra power to the GPU. You may remember that the PCI Express version of the 6600GT does not require a separate power connector

The whole point was upgrading a cheap machine with a tiny power supply that had an agp slot to upgrade onboard video on a budget desktop, I didn't know it was a laptop. The ATI 9600 Pro is perfect for a budget desktop with agp slot for EQ.

The ATI Radeon X800 Pro was the Geforce 6600 GT direct competition.
