I wouldn't focus on the ease or difficulty of a class. Really learning a technique for a particular class is not THAT much more difficult whether it's a mage or necro or whatever. The one exception may be a Bard as they're just oddballs.
As other's have mentioned, don't overlook Beastlords for soloability.
I would make a statement that Necro's, Mages, BL's and Druids are probably the best soloers for standard playing techniques. However, that said, if you like to push the limits, and try some non-traditional methods, you can solo most any class successfully, at least up into the 50's. Monks, SK's, Enchanters, and others all have some fun tricks in their bag for making the mob dead.
The bottum line as always: Play what you find appealing, suitable and fun for you.

Find a good active guild and once you're into the 50's/60's you'll have no problem finding people to play with...with any class.
