Todays patching.. now won't load...Follow

#1 May 16 2007 at 6:42 AM Rating: Default
So Sony made me patch this morning like everyone else... but now when I go to start EQ it'll go through the file check start to load EQ and then crashes out right after the game window pops up. WTF?! Seriously how can a single patch mess this all up so easily.

Any ideas?!

I too get booted off the loader right after the file check .. I am hopefull that this was set up on purpose so Sony dosnt get 20,000 logon attempts during path .. and that it will be corrected with the last file update before servers go back up ...

Maybe Sony should learn from other MMORPGS and just have a sorry the servers are down message instead...

I played fine yesterday so there should be no reason I can't today... seriously I hate unstable systems..

Seriously? Wow, and you did say you've played other MMO's? This patch was announced. I believe they said ten hours, so I don't think they are even late as of yet.

Btw, a bit of a warning; EQ requires more patience than your run-of-the-mill WoW type MMO (and not because of unstable servers).

Where was the announcement? I honestly don't remember seeing it...

Well Patience is one thing... for a game with older graphics I can't believe how slow it loads. When I played WOW I could click the desktop icon and be playing with no lag within 3 min.. Hmm..

I think Sony should take some time to optimize the loading of the game too..

All the patch announcements are on SOE's EQ sites. It's handy to know them for planning. ex: we are planning an epic hunt tonight knowing that there is an excellent chance of the elusive turn in mob being up as the servers would have just been reset.

EQ loads slower than Vanguard too. EQ's old graphics engine is a dinosaur, you are loading a dinosaur versus a hamster. Smiley: wink

Should also add part of EQ's slow loading is due to the massive amounts of content it has to load.

On the forums, the patch was noted. Unfortunately, they're working EQPlayers in the patch as well, so it is down also which is slightly inconvenient for getting to the forums. However, the forums are still up. Check out the Town Crier section.

Moreover, the information is also posted here. 2 Patch notes threads. Expected downtime etc. listed here.

And while the servers were down for a patch to add said optimization in, there would be yet another thread of this sort containing much gnashing of teeth...

Mommy SOE stole my lunch money!! waahh

Check the status page. They announced they extended patch time today. Has nothing to do with "unstable servers" just keep playing WoW until it's finished and chill.

Hey now be nice. I wasn't talking about unstable servers. I was talking about the program crashing. I hear about so many people having problems running EQ... it's hard to believe a game this old has any kinks left to iron out.

I am still getting booted right after the file check. and the patch was done yesterday. any suggestions

A cleric I team with was having same problem yesterday. She had to uninstall her custom UI. After that it ran fine, but she was ticked off about having to do that.

The OP has a point you know other MMOs have a message when you go to log on etc. that state scheduled downtimes making it very convenient not having to go to a website to look for future downtimes. As long as EQ has been going there is little reason to have something implemented like this. They sure dont have a problem forcing popups advertising the latest expansion before you can get to the server select screen why in the world couldnt they use the same thing for scheduled downtime?
