getting accounts that arent yoursFollow

what do yall think about buying characters or getting characters that arent yours?im going to get a lvl 66 De enchanter. he said do i want it or not. i said can i get back to you and he said yes. should i say yes or not because ive never played an enchanter before and am afraid if i get than itll be a waste of his time lvling it because i wont be able to play due to lack of knowledge. now no matter wat class it was would it be dumb to get an aacount that you didnt role yourself? right now i hav a 52 necro so i know how to play kinda. are enchanters hard to learn to play or not o and he also has a lvl 61 halfling cleric he said i can have either one....which one should i get or shouylkd i just not get? thanks in advance

I won't comment on the good or bad of account purchasing in general. To each his own there. Just be aware that SOE does not recognize account transfers and if the original owner ever wanted to get it back they most likely could do so if they go through the right channels or make enough of a stink to customer service.

As far as jumping onto a 66 enchanter when you've never played the class before .. bad idea IMHO. Enchanter is one of the more challenging classes to master. They are a finesse class for the most part. They have many many spells that you may never use, may not know what they do, or only have use in specific circumstances.

If you just want a pocket chanter for buffs, sure, go for it. If you want to xp as an enchanter I think you should hook up with an in-game enchanter mentor or tutor to show you the ropes before you start grouping.

I wouldn't do it. An enchanter is a slightly harder class to play seeing as the whole group will depend on your CC. I also find it much more enjoyable to lvl up a toon to a high lvl and know that you got there yourself, not through buying it. If you want an enchanter just roll one and learn how to play it well.

Getting an account any other way than opening a new one is a big risk. At 'any time' the original owner can get your new station name & password from SoE, by a simple email, and change them on you... losing any work you put into that character.

To feel safe and know I cannot lose my account to anyone, is worth the 20 bucks for new account and a bit of power-leveling or xping. With a higher toon to use, it is not hard to level up a new toon... starting over on a new server would be another story.

did it happen to you or sumthin?

Point is, it can happen. Level your own character. It's better to do that, than get stuck paying for someone else to play EverQuest because you bought their account, and they decided to take it back.

As an afterthought: if you do get someone else's account, the only way to keep a character from it for tabs, is to transfer it to your own account after you got it. Then it wont matter, if he proves ownership to Sony and gets back the control of his account.
(Sony asks several things to rpove ownership, and if he can do that, he will get control back. This are things like CD codes, numbers of cards being used to pay, and so on, things the original owner would know, but not you.)

Having played an enchanter, I would not recommend buying one, as you will probably become frustrated soon. The class plays different from necros, mages and the other casters, as it is more passive. Due to many nerfs to chanter powers he lost also his former punch (charm worked better in those days than now, where are many mobs simply "immune to charm"), and at high levels you run into the problem that your mezz spells dont work, too, if your groups targets are too high. Former famous chanter techniques have also died, like the "stun circle", because chanters dont get useful AE stuns anymore (below 55 it works fine), and many mobs have become immune to stun.
If you play one up, you will probably be happier, as you know what does what, and how you have to act against various mobs (and how to control your group).

I kinda need to disagree here with how hard the enchanter is for a reason. I am a hardcore necro and Can and do use my toon to its fullest on crowd control, alive and undead. Having learned this I can play my enchanter quite well. If I spent more time on her I believe I would be as efficient with her as I am on the necro. So though the OP is a necro, do not be afraid to play an ench by any means. By now even at 52 you should understand some basics between both classes. The thing is learning the different spells.

As for taking over another account, all my accounts that I have not started myself were from real life friends that left the game. Other than that I would have a hard time trusting anyone else.

Seeing as how the account would have been free, I would have taken it simply for the buffs. I agree with the majority here though that you'd not want to try and play it in a group with no experience at CC, but damn, having a pocket chanter for buffs whenever you want them would be a nice thing to have. Plus you could buff for donations in PoK to raise some spending cash. If the original owner ever took the account back, so what? You would have definitely gotten your money's worth out of it. Just don't ever leave anything on that account you'd not be willing to lose and it'd be a win-win situation.

My advice is DONT use others accounts.
Even tho is it posted by Sony that purchase is against rules, people sell and buy all the time. I have seen the purchasers put years of hard work into the char only to have the original owner come back and take the account away with one whine to SoE. very unfair but it is done time and time again.

My opinion is that if someone (a friend in RL) gives you an account, it's ok to quietly take it over. The big issue then becomes learning the class before getting into a group that will be depending on you to know your abilities and class. Not knowing at level 66 is about as bad and infuriating to other players as you can get. DONT DO THIS.

Actually BUYING an account is lame, Lame, LAME and you should be banned from the interwebz for 6 months.
