Going with level 80 was a tough choice, but we made it for a good reason. Progressing characters is pretty key to the game and a decent percentage of our players are level capped currently. With the change to one expansion a year, it was either now or it would have been 2 years between level 75 and level 80. Right now, we're planning to do a level increase once a year with each new expansion.

We're well aware of the controversy over foci effects and looking into ways we can alleviate some of the sting with the shortened time between 75 and 80.

Bah, why 80? That's near rediculous.

I wonder what the required level will be on the new buffs for the 76-80 line of spell buffs. I still think the requirement for buffs such as Tenacity and Dire Focus should have been level 65 or so instead of level 61.

I am really looking forward to this!!! :-)

I think it's great to build the expansion on an old world continent and to continue to develop existing NPCs. Meldrath was one of the reasons for choosing my Ogre's surname - Gnomechewer. (Hate this guy!)

Hopefully they don't forget to bring lower level content, too... TBS was rather aimed at high end players.

Personally, I am pretty excited about them going back to Faydwer, and hopefully making it a little more "old school". There are a number of zones on the original EQ map that were never created before, and I hope they use some of those.

I am torn on the level cap increase. I don't mind the grinding another 5 levels, its the trivializing of my Focii effects (just got my MP6 last month, sheesh) and the making of some of my favorite zones obsolete.

Its the obsolescence of the zones (for those max level) that really bothers me the most. With the bump to 80, OOW will basically be the oldest expansion you can go back to, and get decent experience in a group. Excepting of course, maybe some high-end zones that had to be unlocked by raiding or a few rare exceptions scattered among the expansions.

A lot can happen in 6 months, so we will see how it goes.

That is a good question. I hope that they start including all prior expansion with the purchase of the new one, would make life simpler for all.

I have a feeling that they will make it downloadable only at first, then around the time of the anniversary they will release it as a compilation. That way they get more money out of people.

#9 May 13 2007 at 12:22 AM Rating: Decent
They have an anniversary edition all expansions thru TBS included for 19.99 odd thing is you cant buy it thru the sony site but I got mine thru Best Buy.com. I doubt they will do another all inculsive so soon to the last one, but I could be wrong. Crappy part of the anniversary edition is its only for shipped not downloadable but still best deal going. Toss on the 30 bucks for the new expansion and your at 50 bucks to have em all if you do it that way when new one comes out.

Like the expansion idea and going back to some more old world content, but hate level 80, would much rather had a tonne of AAs instead.

To me, level 80 just means spending months updating my focii which I just got from the last expansion...

also, curious as to what this means:

Heroic items: Push yourself beyond your limits with Heroic Items that take your abilities beyond their maximum potential.

New epics?

Perhaps having heroic items equipped lifts some sort of stat cap?

The Monk rep stated that focii are being revamped.

I have heard rumors that the Heroic items are like epic armor.

If you register the anniversary edition on the same account as you have now, you will only recieve the in-game items that you did not recieve. No account will be able to have 2 or more of the same in-game item. If you create a new account, you will get all the in-game items.

I can't wait to hit 75, but I don't see that happening for another month and a half tho, especially because I have so much of the game I haven't experienced. Like I have never taken on any of the gods. I have never raided either. So I am getting ready for that.

One thing that always seems to crop up whenever an expansion is announced is the weeping and wailing and the gnashing of teeth over having to get new foci. What is the big flippin deal? I have a 70 necro, and one of the things I enjoy about having him to play is there is always something more I want for him; spells, gear, foci, whatever. If we didn't have foci to chase after with each level cap raise, half the fun of playing our characters would be lost! One of the major playing points of an MMO like this is people are always supposed to be wanting something more for their character. I can think of nothing worse than reaching max level, max AA, max everything. Expansions are all about having to go after upgrades for your character. It's part and parcel of the whole concept.

It is NOT fun chasing down new focii (at least not for me)... TSS had terrible caster itemization, same as TBS. It is an annoying timesink to keep on par with other casters- if you don't do it, your sub-par and are not wanted. I may also add that melee focii do not degrade...

FOCI:

True about caster foci degrading. I still see many armor items that are better than what ppl are wearing but have lvl 65 focii on them for improved healing or extended range or mana preservation whatnot. If the casters are casting lvl 66-75 spells then it does nothing at all to help them.

For melee if you are wearing parry 3 or dodge 3 whatnot it still works even when you are lvl 75 or 80 even.

Small correction to that. Foci still works on higher level spells, the % increase just degrades for each level of the spell past the foci. So a level 65 foci will still effect a level 66, 67 or 68 spell, the % of the foci just degrades for each level.

Another thing about degrading caster focii- stagnation of mid to low tier raid content.

My guild is still raiding encounters in DP, but with level 80 the focii there will be severely degraded, and we have to ask: Is it worth raiding DP anymore?

I wonder if they will be coming out with better distillate potions? So maybe there will be Distillate of Alacrity XII now? That would be nice =)

Besides if they move the level cap up there are going to be some huge changes made to the game again =(... Like revamping gods and some old-world raid mobs to keep the high levels from soloing them etc.

I guess I'll just sit back and watch and hope for the best =|

Yeah, you'll get a percentage of the effect, but if a character is really dependent on that FE, the individual will likely have the higher level FE anyway.

It would be nice to be able to upgrade the max effective level of a focus effect, at least on select items, through some task or tradeskill route that is specific to that effect.

All caster's are very dependent on focus effects- you know they where introduced into the game in the first place to keep caster DPS on par with melee...

Ychir, are you telling me that you don't feel that thrill, that tingle in the pit of your stomach when you are about to get that upgrade you've had your eye on for so long? Come on now. That's what a lot of the game is all about. Going after gear that either makes you more powerful or gives you an ability you previously did not have. That's why they release expansions. Well, they release them to make money ultimately, but from a game playing point of view, that's what it's about. Without that, the game would lose a great deal of its appeal.
