Level cap is going up when the next expansion is released, in November. Seems far away but before we know it, we will be looking to upgrade all our gear, spells and focus.
I wish they would implement new focus items that do not have level restrictions.. wouldnt it be nice to get a focus that works on spells of all levels? Then you can upgrade an item when you choose too, and not just because you need the focus upgrade.
I'm still looking for lvl 75 focus stuff, only to need to start all over in just a few months... just like I did at 65 & 70 :( Would it really be game breaking to ditch the level caps on item focus?

Do you think now that they've decided expansions will come out at yearly intervals each November that each expansion will up the level cap?

In four years we'd have centurian toons. Smiley: grin

It must be about time for an Epic 3.0 as well??

I would rather they add a boatload of AAs than raise the level cap again.

What makes you think there will be a level cap increase?

Original EQ - 50
Kunark - 60
Velious - 60
Luclin - 60
Planes - 65
Ykesha - 65
LDoN - 65
Gates - 65
Omens - 70
Dragons - 70
Darkhollow - 70
Ro - 70
Serpent's - 75
Buried - 75

They have never, ever, raised the level cap after just one expansion. After cap was raised to 60 there were 2 more expansions released before cap was raised to 65. After that there were 3 more expansions released before it went up to 70. Another 3 full expansions came out after that before it went up again to 75.

Unless someone actually knows of a statement from SOE claiming otherwise, I claim bull on this post.

Serpent's had a level cap increase and a new playable race. If SOE follows the pattern they've set then the next "big thing" will be a new class to play, but that doesn't mean there will be one in the next expansion.

Thank you doorsofpercep, I stand corrected. I don't often visit SOE site, this one is so much more helpful.

Well .. level 80, return of the Sleeper, and a bunch of robots. Although with it still being 6 months out there is plenty of time for changes to be made.

With this info, I wouldn't be surprised if Clockwork became somehow the next playable class or race.

It appears that Firiona Vie has recovered from the epileptic fit that The Buried Sea seemed to throw her into.

Wonder what the 'Heroic Items' are gonna be??

Kunark, of course, raised the cap and Luclin brought us AAs which allowed for non-levelling advancement of characters. I think also that they didn't really need to raise the cap at this point -- modern raiding techniques didn't quite gel until the Velious era and proved effective enough in Luclin that the developers realized a need to raise the bar post-Luclin.

Neither Ykesha and LDoN had end-game content to make a cap raise logical. I suppose LDoN had its raids but those were thrown in at the last minute. Gates was designed with the intent of being lvl 70 content and a cap raise at EQ's (sixth?) anniversery. They decided to push off the increase until Omens for whatever reason.

I don't think you can look at the level caps in a vacuum to determine trends. There was a lot of other factors at work to encourage/discourage raising the level cap.

IMO which is kinda nooby i guess being ive never gotten past 53 but i think that no more lvl caps would be nice. i like 75 its a good number. 80 sounds weird but anyways instead of lvls hey should add more AA's and lots more races and classes. most the fun to me is gettin chars to lvl 10 and then quittin lol.i think more classes atleast

What I would like to see is the limit of aa's that you can bank be removed, so that if you want to bank a couple of hundred or more, you can; just like when you do the betas, you have a set amount of aa's you can set depending on your class..

Progression through half of the content sounds resonable for you and your guild. I only counted a total of three ppl in your guild roster who are currently lvl 75, and thats fine for a relaxed casual gameplay environment.

Many of us enjoy a challenging, strategy focused environment where teamplay and precision are the order of the day. We look forward to a new set of spells, skills, abilities, and levels to challenge us.

As for "serious playing flaws", I would venture to say that anyone who plays their own character from 1-80 will do just fine as long as they are paying attention and in some cases doing what they are told. The playing flaws only really come into play when someone, who may actually be a decent player, decides that they want to do something their own way instead of the team leader way. This person becomes a rebel who at best is someone who doesnt contribute much to the team and at worst cannot be counted on to fill their role or hampers/hinders the team. This person needs to stay a solo'er in a nice secluded zone/area where he can have all the fun play time he wants without interference and ppl telling him what to do.

So playing flaws are really ONLY a mismatch of your chosen role and your perceived role. Somebody who chooses soloing and never casts more than two spells but has fun killing a rat or snake... I say gratz. Say hello if you see me in POK or bazaar. The same person who chooses to be in an Anguish or Theatre of Blood raid wont get the same gratz from me.
A 'raider' who feels dragged down by ppl who wont work efficiently or quickly enough will soon say goodbye to his casual playing friends and seek out a more regimented progresion guild.
Its only the play style mismatch that causes problems not the level or the person or the character or the zone.

I think Darthor may have been referring to the situation of ever more powerful characters vs. the game content when talking about playing flaws, I think

Not one person on the servers yet has progressed through half of what they have put out so far.

Please clarify this statement. Not one person has seen all the content of half the expansions? Not one person has seen the end zones of Gates of Discord, Omens of War and onward?

Many guilds are progressing through the latest expansion normally. Countless guilds have completed the previous 12 expansions.

Besides that I do wish that SoE would first FIX the problems and bugs of the previous 13 expansions before releasing a new one.

Please specify.

What is broken about Kunark, Velious, Luclin, Dragons of Norrath, Legacy of Ykesha, etc?

The reference I believe you are making is to just quests, and not content, about 50%. Many quests were never even worth doing, even at the time they came out.

Many quests and events have been abandoned also, due to bugs, or unforeseen problems with them, or what not.

Next, all the problems you just mentioned are not expansion specific. Although I wil mention one that is expansion specific. The "Free the Droga Slaves" quests have been broken for several years, but they did not break until sometime in 2004 iirc, which was 4yrs after the expansion came out.

I'm not going to agree with you, that they should spend time working on those type of bugs. Eventhough I would like several of them fixed, they are not actually worth doing. There is so much other content that gives even better rewards that does work. The only reason I even want them fixed, is for nastalgia, as I would like to repeat them again on other toons. However, I doubt I would, even if fixed, due to newer content with better rewards and more people interested in it.

I'm much happier when they work on fixing system wide bugs, that affects lots of people with little in the way to avoid them, other than not playing.

Yther Ore.

I think that this expansion should feature a POK that doesn't crash every other day.

@ DarthorDR:
“I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” is a quote often, but apparently wrongfully, ascribed to Voltaire. What I am fairly sure he DID say is from the Essay on Tolerance: Think for yourselves and let others enjoy the privilege to do so too.

It's a beautiful sentiment. But unless you are Voltaire re-incarnated (a joke, if ever there was one), you should give credit where credit is due.
