Okay, ive been playing other mmo's for a while now and i kind of want to try out eq. I do not know anyone personally who plays so im asking the question here. Is this game very newbie friendly? I mean, what is the population like? I know that this game has been around forever so is everyone pretty much max lvl or is that not the case? Thanks for any information

There's always someone playing an alt. If need be, you can solo in the lower levels (I wouldn't suggest some servers for a newbie, such as Firiona Vie or Antonius Bayle, which both have a higher population of high-level characters).

There's normally a preferred server, which was Maelin for the longest time (can't for the life of me think of what it is now), that should have the lower level players.

As for newbie friendly... I'd say yes. There are always people that are nice in MMOs, just ask around in the general chats (/join general) if you have any questions.

When I went in as a n00b to EQ (still am) I joined the Stromm server. There's a guild I was in that offered n00b advice, and even paid to upgrade my Enchanter's gear once in the Bazaar.
They told me everything I really needed to know about the game. From having to Hail someone to talk to you, getting used to typing /gu instead of /g and have it stay there for Guild Chat, to the Bazaar.

The game is pretty much like WoW in ways except there's no floating "!" over a Quest Giver to let you know s/he can give you a quest for XP, money, or gear.

Stromm server has a pretty well balenced population, just it seems at times when at Butcherblock, Field of Bone, and South Ro, that I'm the only 1 in the Zone.
And 1 time in South Ro I was.
I believe it's probley since there's so many zones and continents compared to WoW, that... well. The game is HUGE. And so are the zones.
