Normal Servers - What race hates who?Follow

#1 Apr 24 2007 at 7:20 PM Rating: Decent
In World of Warcraft, you got 2 factions. Alliance and Horde.

In the Normal Servers of EQ, what are the factions? Like, will a Beastlord be attacked be Dwarfs, but they won't attack a Human?

The original game had over 400 factions, if I recall correctly. It's pretty hard to give an idea of who hates who, as some depends on race, some on diety, and some on what which NPCs of a place you are talking about.

But in general. Iksars hate everyone, and everyone hates Iksars to start with. Vah Shir and Drakkin are Indifferent (middle of the road) to everyone. I'm not positive that the reverse is true for either of those. Wood Elves and Dark Elves hate each other, and as far as I can tell, you can not get a player of either race to be liked at all by the other without becoming KoS (Killed on Sight -- Max hated) with their own people.

The Evil races are:
Ogre, Troll, Iksar, and Dark Elves

The Good races are:
High Elf, Wood Elf, Halfling, Half-Elf, Dwarves, and Barbarians

The Neutral (or can go either way, depending on race) are:
Human, Drakkin, Vah Shir, Gnome, Froglok, Erudite

Your diety plays a big part in faction also. The way the game is done currently though, faction plays very little part in being able to do anything, but certain old-world quests, the large majority of which aren't worth doing anyway, and haven't been for a long time. Most likely, the only thing you'll want to check faction for is for your toon's epic quest. But even, if you screwed it up along the way, you can generally fix it, unless you have went out of your way to mess up faction with your race, class, and diety. Generally this would involve killing NPCs in the cities of your race and/or allies to your race.

Anyway, with the advent of Plane of Knowledge, the one zone that connects to so many other ones, faction is not really an issue, since you don't have to run through lots of zones with KoS npcs.

Also, when creating your new toon, read the descriptions for the race, class, and diety. Picking what suits your play style is way more important than worrying about how well you get along with other races / classes. However, the Iksar is a fun race to play, just because everyone hates them, and they hate everyone, so is more challenging, or was back in the day, when trying to figure out how to get from point A to B, and how to be able to buy / sell needed goods when far away from home. Now-a-days, that's not a problem at all.

Hope this helps.

Yther Ore.

BTW: You should read the sticky for New / Returning players, many of your questions are most likely answered there.

I see. I used to play EQ and I was just concerned who are the "good guys" and the "bad guys".
I like being a good guy and being on the winning team.

If you used to play, then you should know who the good and bad guys are, and the EQ website.....

Not sure if I agree with this for a wood elf it is possible to become non kos to DE's its just a hell of a job!
My woodelf has been trying to fix this now for a few years and is now ally with all neriak merchants and only "Threateningly" with the other darkelves (that I know of) but it took me a insane amount of lighstones etc etc.

I also know a ogre who is ally with Surefall, and Jaggedpine but took him years too

I'm sorry, but I can't believe that you don't know which race is good, and the lore of EQ. I just don't buy that.

I've been playing WoW for over a year now and EQ in a way is still new to me.
I'm used to what WoW does, then I have to think of the way EQ does things and do my best to forget what WoW has.

Such as the Hate List. In WoW, it's;
Red - Hostile, will KOS. Stay away. Mob is 3 or more levels above you.
Orange - Unfriendly, will attack if you attack it(only for mobs or NPC's with Faction), if no faction, will KOS.
Yellow - Mob or NPC your level. Is also Neutral. Mobs at this level, if hostile, will KOS.
Green - Mob or NPC 2 levels below you
Grey - Mob or NPC 10 or more levels below you
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The mob's name, if Hostile, will be Red. But their Level can be any one of these colors.
If the mob's Name is red and the Level is red, stay away, your too low. And so forth.
Factions in WoW, are basically to become friendly with a faction to let you get past something and/or to get stuff from them. The only faction you can't improve is Horde when on the Alliance side, and the Alliance if on the Horde side.

You see. That's alot to learn. And I know it all. But now I gotta learn about EQ's system and it's info. I've only played EQ for about 2 weeks before I quit because I was just tired thinking the game looked like it was still in BETA, but I never really gave the game a chance.
I'm willing to give it a 2nd chance. With what I have learned with the basics. Like the Bazaar, the Meditating, having to eat when you don't have to in WoW, getting used to the Beastlord not being able to have a Gun anymore like you do with a Hunter in WoW, which is basically the same thing.
Except you get to pick your pet instead of buying it from your Trainer, or Guild Master in EQ.

And with EQ, it has more mob colors. And I was in this 1 zone, wondering who I attack and going after the Yellow mobs and wondering why they hit so hard since my memory is still from WoW.
Hard to get used to another game's system after playing 1 game for a LONG time and getting used to it's system.

That's basically it in a nutshell. I have played EQ, but not enough to learn everything I needed to learn to seperate WoW from EQ.
Never gave the game a chance. You know I even weighed the Pros and Cons of EQ VS WoW, and WoW outweighed the Pros.
I didn't like losing XP when dying. Or having to eat and drink constantly, and when it comes to updating my spells, having to go threw a long list of spells and gear from other people selling to my Trainer. Plus it wasn't in order by Level.
It was like;
Spell Name. BST 25
Spell Name. BST 8
Spell Name. BST 50
Bpell Name. BST 30.
Just like that, in order. That's confusing.

I'm actually was surprised in the days I was in EQ, that not 1 person I talked to ever played WoW.
WoW is getting boring to me, and I wanna go back to EQ. With what I have learned in the past, it should be easier for me.

Hmm, interesting on the DE faction. The ones that are threatening, must the ones on the Indigo Brotherhood faction. That's the one I was referring to. The NPCs on that faction, must have another faction, although, from memory Illia's only shows those NPCs having that faction. The only way I remember of increasing it was to kill Wood Elves which lowered several Kelethin factions. Unless you're not Ally with all of Kelethin any longer.

It seemed to me that Emerald Warriors was always hit, doing anything that increased Indigo Brotherhood, but I could be wrong. It's been a long time since I looked at it. I still need to go check Grobb and Ogguk faction, and see how much work I need to do there. Getting close on iksars, maxed on a few but still KoS on a few there too. That bone chip quest takes forever. have already done around 8K of bone chips hand ins (around 2K quests at 4x bone chips / quest), and still KoS.

I would like to know if you have anything you've found that's relatively quick or easy (as I'm sure nothing is both) for raising the Dark Elf factions. I've worked on it only very slightly, but I might get in the mood sometime to burn through it, like I had on 2 of the Iksar factions.

/con color has to do with level difference and experience.

Gray cons give no experience. All other con colors give experience, with increasing difficulty. If it says will take an army to defeat, that means it is intended to be a raid mob. By Sony's statement (not mine) Dark Blue cons are the ideal con for killing for experience. Dark Blues are 1 to 5 levels below your level (the level difference being less than 5 at the very low levels). White con is the same level. The others have fractional or percentage limits, compared to your current level.

DE faction is fairly complicated. See this thread for a primer.
