Not sure what you mean exactly, since I never played WoW. But there are in-game maps with files in everquest\MAPS directory. You can edit those out of game and put labels to specific points in them, like for spawn points of Named mobs, or the location of merchants or quest NPCs. The maps at mapfiend.net for Everquest generally have such labels already in them.

If you plan on adding the points yourself, you may want to note that the first 2 sets of numbers in game are reversed order in the map file and also reversed polarity (i.e. in-game /loc of -100, +200, +34, would be -200, +100, +34 in the map .. although, I'm not 100% positive the elevation stays the same polarity, but it definitely is the 3rd number in the map file).

This doesn't sound exactly like what you are looking for, but it is the best I can do for general locations and maps. Other options, including using the Find (Ctrl+F) function to create a path to NPCs in certain zones. Also, the Leadership Ability of Find Path to PC, where you target a Player and hit that hot button and a path appears to the Player.

Finally, certain classes can Track players, npcs, and mobs. This is a class-specific and level dependant ability. Rangers get the best Track, Druids next, then Bards.

There is also the /loc or /location command which reports your position as +N, +W, +Up for positive directions.

I hope this helps.

Basically something like this is what I'm talking about, from ui.worldofwar.net;
http://ui.worldofwar.net/ui.php?id=3361
With this, you go to a site like Thottbot, look up the quest, get the coords, and type ingame, /tloc XX,XX, with the XX's being numbers. Like 25,13. Which shows the percise location of an area or a mob you need to kill for a Quest.

That is what I'm talking about. :) But I thank you much. And I'm happy to hear that Druids get this Find ability. What level do they get it?

Levels you get Track:
Rangers = 1st level
Druids = 20th level
Bards = 35th level

You can find out more about classes under the Classes Forums link on the left or at http://eq.crgaming.com/ as well as several other sites, including class specific sites.

typing /loc in game will give you your current coordinates, but thats about as helpful as it will get as far as finding something at a seperate location, you will have to manually (make a hotbutton) use /loc to make your way to the mob/area you want.

That's quite out of date, I believe. Just reading it again now for giggles, and it claims that from 1-8 takes about 60-70 hours. I remember it taking about 5 for a new person.

Unlike WoW, EQ zones have coordinates right off the bat, no need for third party software.

Except you have to understand the weird orientation of the scales.

Type '/loc' in game, and you'll get three figures; the Y-axis, the X-axis and the Z-axis.

Y is North-South. The HIGHER the number, the further SOUTH you are.

X is East-West, the higher the number, the further West you are.

Z is Up-Down. The higher the number, the higher UP you are. (SOE is messing with our heads...)

Most, but not all, zones have location (0, 0, Z) smack in the middle of the map.

Take a look at EQAtlas and browse around. Sadly, it's not being updated, but you'll see the vast majority of pre-LDoN zones there, and you can familiarise yourself with the /loc system by printing out one of the maps and going there with your toon. Spend the 30 minutes, it's a skill that comes in handy. And be pleased you don't have to practice 'Sense Heading' to learn where North is - we had to learn that, back in the day.

That was the easy part. Remember above when I said no need for third party software? I lied a little.

Log out of EQ. Go to www.mapfiend.com. Find the 'download all maps' and get the whole package. Then unzip them into your maps folder in your EQ directory. Say 'Yes to ALL' when ZIP asks you if it's ok to overwrite the existing maps. Now launch EQ again. You now have all the maps at the tip of your finger. Iirc, Backspace is the default key to bring up the editable map. What you get from Mapfiend is the best rated map for each zone in the game.

And welcome to EQ, I hope and think you will find it to be somewhat more challenging and rewarding than WoW :-)

In reguard to in-game /loc, the higher the number on the Y-axis is more North. The map file is the reverse.

Higher values in all 3 sets of numbers, for in-game locations point North, West, and Up.

This is contradictory (not to mentions wrong, afaik): To the best of my knowledge, the /loc and the map file are two representations of the same data, so they can't be reversed???

Yes they are reversed in polarity (i.e. + = N in game, + = S in map, and in order, Y, X, Z in game, X, Y, Z in map). So if you have a location like +100, -200, +0 in game, and you marked it on your map, and then looked at the map locations, they would be +200, -100, 0.

And as an example, the label has the in-game numbers:
P 1810.0000, 1118.0000, -100.2962, 0, 0, 127, 3, -1118_-1810_-97

Note levi bounce most likely the reason for the elevation deviation.

Ooooooh. Pretty numbers! :D lol
Thanks for the assistance guys. Seeing how EQ seems to be more favorable of Grinding instead of Questing(except in CR where there's lots of Quests), coodinents doesn't really seem to be needed.

I have read that /loc is commonly used for when your about to die and you can use it to find your corpse. Since there's no arrow that shows you where your Corpse is, like WoW.
Or I could just buy a Soulstone and use it to rez my body at The Lobby in PoK.
See, I've learned a few things of my 3 weeks in EQ.
