Iksar = Best. Best mood, best lore, best whatever. Even the old models for them were cool.

SOE retcon'd the lore for the Vah Shir which always struck me as lame. The frogloks aren't frogloks but rather "Guktans" (who, ironically, look more like a walking frog than their less advanced froglok cousins who can at least stand up straight) and Drakkins are just dumb.

Also, the Iksar were the closest SOE came to making a mob (lizard men) into a player race. Vah Shir are barely "Kerran" and I mentioned the frogloks.

Well, it appears I'm one of the minority... I like the Drakkin because they have a lot of cool background lore (like the Iksar others mentioned), a cool body-art look, and a breath weapon like their forebears...

I would have to go with the Vah Shir. They have a great city, newbie zones were alot of fun. The newbie quests were fun, helped you get to know the city and got you started in Tradeskills. I have always liked the looks of them. I like the looks of their armor too, though I do have to admit I think they can do better on the chain graphics.(still hoping they change that someday)
But anyway, the Vah Shir get my Vote :o)

I picked Vah Shir i have always liked the looks of them and the fact that they are a very neutral race that anyone can come see is a plus. On top of that i guess im biased because of the content that came with them awesome newbie zones and PC is still one of the only zones still used after all this time.

well i would choose iksar. because they look the toughest and the coolest. there newbee area still gets used. i like the fact that there all alone in kunark and no other race likes them. i do wish tho that the character race matterd more in EQ. like if your a iksar you get to do more quests or you get more EXP if you group with iksars. if i had 2 votes i would of chosen drakin. because i like the lore that there realated to dragons. and i had a good time playing my drakin doing the newbee quests exploring city enjoyed the newbee area on beta over the summer was a good time. but iksars are the oldest and there the first newer race pre luclin and Pop. frogs are ok but they are just to little and weird for me. and they should not of lost the batte for there home city. and they should go fight back. but vah shirs are the WORST! they are to fuzzy and looks like you could buy one at build a bear workshop. and they just dont look like they could fight. and the chain armor on them looks awful

I've played them all. No doubt the Dracken are the best. The breath weapon and detailed heritage make them a blast to play. (Not to mention they all look like there're related to David Bowie) :) There're easy to solo with too!

All the races / classes are pretty easy to solo anymore. I like Iksars the best, Drakkin a close second, although I was disappointed in the models. Vah Shir, I used to like when Luclin came out, but after playing several, and over time, have no real liking for them now. Frogloks are by far the worst. I have never liked them, and never will. Trolls rule, and the Frogloks should of never taken the Troll home. I don't like how the Frogloks have moved to Rathe Mtns either.

From the beginning the EQ developers should have made a new city for Frogloks. A place maybe buried in Guk or something. Just as long as they stay in their dungeon, I won't have to slaughter them.

Well, I think you get the point, and if not here it is plain and simple: Frogloks are by far the worst race in EQ!

The frogloks were a scourge on the face of EQ. The Vah Shir were forgettable at best. I've no opinion on the Draken, cause they were after my time. So definitely the Iksar.

I was always dissappointed that they didn't make orcs a playable race.

Iksar by far. My main was an Iksar when I started playing during Kunark, and still is to this very day. None of the other new races, hell to me none of the other races period really stack up to how detailed the lore is as well of just how badass the Iksar are. At least, in my opinion anyways.

I loved the iksar.

Unbelievable lore, amazing looks and a well-thought quest system.

All I gotta say about froglok lore is it basically calls them genetic trash and barbarians sharing a brother and sister as parents.

The story of how they came about due to Terris Thule stealing Mith Marr's life essence and imprisoning him only to have his essence stolen by Morell Thule due to having a disagreement with his family.

One part was hidden in Inny swamp which from the muck came the Guktan race.

The other part was hidden inside his sister, to which end she went to everfrost to give birth to the barbarian race.

Take the "essence" as you wish but I'd call that artifical incest which makes northmen inbred, humans also inbred and half elves only half inbred.

I voted Froglok because they were the most original. Vah Shir = cat people, Iksar = lizard people, Drakkin = people (with weird tattoos). Froglok are still frogs, they jump like frogs, etc. Everything else is just a mutant human. I would like to see a playable insectoid race, or like Kakar said, another playable evil race like orcs or gnolls.

I remember thinking that the animation to the iksar was really cool at the time it came out.

Now I've seen the animation for the drakkin and they get the top vote for me.

I have not played a drakkin yet, but it seems to me that the tss zones represent a pretty complete set of zones to progress thru.

Iksar. Iksar have some of the most amazing lore in this game. Cabilis is one of the coolest starting cities and FoB is one of the nicest newbie zones. I love Iksar.

Vah Shir are an extremely distant second. They have decent lore and a beautiful city (plus I love Luclin). But they look kind of stupid. And someone still needs to explain to me how some fat paw cat can be a bard.

I don't really care either way about Frogloks. They look ok I guess, if you dig playing subhuman things.

Drakkins. Honestly I really liked them in the beginning. Maybe it was just cuz it was new. But not anymore. They look like lame cavemen when nekkid and their animations are awful. Plus for some reason people feel the need to include the letters "drak" somewhere in their stupid Drakkin's name. It would have taken 3 seconds of thought to realize how dumb and unoriginal that would be.

Iksar - still think they are the most original. And I miss the way they use to swim through the water, reptile like instead of like every other race.

Drakkin have it hands down in my opinion. Although i think that the iksar are a close second. The drakkin character models were done extremely well and exceeded all of my expectations. Their animations are more fluid and "lifelike" (if that's even the appropriate word for it) than any other race on norrath. The lore behind the drakkin is solid and fairly original, yet in keeping with previous storylines in the game. And Crescent Reach is a well thought out, sprawling city.

The only thing is i wish SoE would implement faction back into the game. Back when you had to faction up to simply enter a city was when i had the most fun. Carefully weighing each kill to ensure you didn't harm your faction with a city you were trying to gain the favor of. It brought a certain feeling into the game instead of it being the same old hack and slash routine.

I agree with about everyone else here, Iksar is, by far, the best race. Its well-thought and without the extensive lore junk. The lore that the Ikky's have (the Shammy Cudgel's, Monk Shackle, Pike for War, etc.) is well thought out and useful for those who don't buy plat for good gear.

Vah Shir's have a nice city, but it gets annoying going through your citizenship everytime you start a newb, which I like to do. The quest line is pretty good but takes a while to do.

Froggy's have a nice newbie start-out, but as soon as you get your final earring, BOOM, you're stuck with the swamp or binding somewhere else.

Drakkin, hmmm, not much to say. The lore is too extensive and long, plus they make the game way too easy. A good thing, however, is the Hollows, which has the nice "layered" levels of mobs.

Overall, nothing can compare to the good 'ol days of multiple mobs in FoB, constant trains in Kurns, and, of course, trying to shove 60 people in about 10 camps in The Sarnak Fort in Lake of Ill Omen!!!!!!

ok, everyone keeps saying Drakkin due to breath wep....that wep sorta sucks high end because it can wipe a group or raid np, it can shoot through the wall aggroing a bunch of mobs....

I voted Froglok, but I miss the fifth option "new races are crap". Smiley: lol

When SOE announced the Drakkin, I thought of a dragon race with wings and big teeth... but we only got pale humans with tattoos.

I never liked Vah Shir, maybe because they're part of the Luclin expansion (which I like least of all); why should there be kittens on the moon?

Iksars are ok and have the best lore, but I still chose Froggies because of the quarrel with the trolls (Grobb/Gukta/Grobb). My froggy pally still wishes he got a new home city instead of the camping ground in Rathe Mountains...

I voted Iksar.

As other have mentioned, the Iksar were inroduced into the game with tons of lore. The entire expansion dealt with the lore of the Iksar. Nearly every single zone of Kunark has something to with the Iksar. The classes that were open to the Iksar play well into the lore.

The Drakkin would be a close second. I think SOE learned something from the cats and frogs with developing a new race to fit the expansion. It also helped that they created an expanion in which you could level a Drakkin without ever leaving, much like the Iksar.

The Vah Shir just seemd to be lacking. The Luclin expansion seemed to forget about the Vah Shir once you left the starting city and the newbie grounds. Once outside, you were just another toon running around fighting high AC/high HP mobs. The Vah Shir were also over shadowed a little by the introduction of the beastlord class at the same time.

The Guktans, IMHO, were just a bone tossed to the players as a novelty. The back story about the invasion of Grobb was great, but once they were moved to the Rathe Mountains, all of the built up story was flushed down the toilet. Personally, I thought they should have made a zone line in Upper and Lower Guk that led to the new expansion (as well as the connection in Stoneburnt). This connection would have led to the new Guktan city. It also hurt that the Guktan were released with an expansion, yet they had nothing to do with the expansion.

I enjoy the lore and battle story behind the froggies, and I have to agree with those mentioning Iksar lore, home, etc. My 2 favorite alts are one of each. But the frogs get my vote due to something I saw someone mention in another thread, and I paraphrase: "Dude, they hop!" I think that pretty much sums it up for me.

Don't worry, be hoppy.

I like the Vah Shar because i like kittys (gets mind out of gutter). Everyone has to look up to them and there beastlord pet matches the race. Drakkins look goofy and frogloks looks kind childish even thou i have a frog warrior. I always play good races because evil ones like Iskars has trouble going into certain places.
#26 Apr 16 2007 at 2:36 PM Rating: Decent
Well, when you read my singnature you will see where my vote went to. I have played them since I got my "new" account. Only other toon i've played to high end was a 65 high elf clr, which me and step bro shared account.

Although my secound choice would be iksar, with everything said above, I also love going into the kunark area and seeign the great statues of Iksars and the ruined kingdom stuff.

Third goes to Van Shir--or how ever you spell it--They are jsut better than the drakkins too me.

There is no fourth choice. I am refusing to belivie the Drakkins a race. I was hyped up for them to come out until i saw the graphics for them, I was highly disappointed, I was expecting like an Iksar with small wings and a bigger tail. Also i was expecting a more dragon like face.

I mean come on SOE, Iksars are more Dragon like then Drakkins.
