Doesn't matter at all unless you are into tradeskilling and want to have the most options open to you. If that's the case, pick a gnome as they get Tinkering as a racial tradeskill.

Good Day
My Wife plays a 64 mage and shes a high elf. Looks good and high int to start with, i play a 69 one and thats a gnome Good char but not so go going up big stairs lol
