Was two boxing on this machine as a two weeks ago ( had the computer since December) and now every time I play I last 3 minutes then bam...screen goes black... only happens in EQ?

sounds like you've over done the graphics card

Gut feeling says it's your power supply unit and/or your graphics card acting up. Can you play other graphic-intensive games?

Open case, use compressed air to clean fans on both your PSU and GPU, boot it up and give EQ a try.

Good luck

I agree, sounds like a heat build up issue. Make sure the fan on the graphics card is working.

Ok, so cleaned out fans, ran temperature monitor, and then ran EQ. It shut down again, but since my screen goes black, I had to crash to shut down machine, so do not know if it was the temp...is their a program I can run to test it, and can video cards just go bad? Thank you all for your help so far, and for any more help you can give.

I had a problem similar to this a while ago. At least once per session of EQ my screen would go black and the power light on my monitor would change to orange, like it was in sleep mode. The only way to get it back was to do a hard reboot. Well finally one day I turned the computer on and though it would boot up the screen stayed off. It turned out the video card had gone out on me. Once I replaced it I didnt have any more problems.

Cleaning the fans, etc, won't help you since chances are permanent damage is done already.

I agree with the others that it is most likely your video card. Possibly your power supply (as Whitman mentioned).

Fortunately, vid cards are down a bit in price (well, at least they were a few weeks ago), so it may not hurt your pocketbook to hard.

Also, if you only had the computer since December, you may want to check your warranties.

Thank you all for the help...I have ordered a new Vid card. Nice to know what the problem is...my monitor is 10 years old and was afraid I was gonna have to replace it...Vid card way less expensive.:)
Cae, thanks for the word..that is exactly what I was going through, and now I can solve the problem.
Again, thanks all for the help.

Don't overclock your video card. 10 year old monitor? 19" lcd's are less than a vid card. Buy one, you'll thank yourself and wonder why you hadn't done it earlier.

Yeah, except I love this 22" screen...but you are probably right. Smiley: grin Will get one after the vid card.
