So, I was solo at the spider camp in icefall last night just minding my own business, when I ran into some trouble. I can handle the spider camp solo once I get the spawn broken, sometimes even enough to pull an icepile or two in between spidey spawn. I had invited a guildy chanty to come down and help out a little and so I could help him with some xp. A necro logs in and asks if I want to join up. I think about it for a min, and think, well, with a necro pulling we could kill a little more, ok. He says we (his group) have 3 peeps. I then say, oh, nm, thanks anyway. He then takes his group to the opposite side of the plateau where the spiders spawn and starts pulling spiders. No asking, no notification, nothing. I tell them very politely that this spot is camped and to please leave. There are at this point only about 2 or 3 other peeps in the entire zone, so there are plenty of spots to kill. The necro tells me there are plenty of mobs and we should share. Needless to say after all of the spiders are killed, we start fighting for mobs.
Now, with insta-nukes, I have a distinct advantage when it comes to pulling. One pops near where they're set up, and I pull it. Apparently the necro didn't like that so he aggroes the icepile that roams the ramp next to the camp and FD right next to me. Of course, it just ended up being more xp for me. So, I announce in /ooc that "Watch out for XXXX, he likes to steal camps by training you." The warrior in his group then says that I was stealing their mobs. I tried to explain to them several times that this is a one camp spot, it was not meant to be shared and they were infringing on my ability to play. The necro then tries to ks me on a kill (silly necro, not gonna out dps a wizzy in a quick fight). The warrior then asks me why I just don't want to join them. I then spout off a long list of reasons why I wouldn't want to join up with a bunch of training, ks'ing camp stealers. I told him I had this camp well in hand when they showed up and tried to steal it from me. He then tells me that the spot was meant to be grouped, not soloed, LOL. I pulled another spider, but as I hit the insta nuke key the snare from the druid in their group landed. Of course I got aggro, and me and the druid fought back and forth over the spider, with me being the victor (which was a little funny since there was another spider he could have pulled instead of trying to fight a losing battle with me). I felt bad because technically I had ks'd, but it wouldn't have been an issue if they hadn't forced it. Right after that the necro trained me and the chanter (who had just recently made it to camp) with a bunch of gobbies from the plateau below camp site and I died. I ran back to camp as quick as I could (not giving up without a fight), and another group of peeps had shown up to take the camp. Being from a guild I've had good experiences with in the past, I told them the story, and they ended up taking over the camp. By the time they were setting up the necro had either died or gated, and the warrior had died. I logged soon thereafter so angry I did not want to play anymore (at least for the night).
Anyway, a couple of questions
1) Is there anything I could have done short of resorting to their unscrupulous tactics to resolve the situation?
2) Did I do anything wrong in this instance?
3) What are some of your horrible experiences?
It has been a LONG time since anything even remotely like this has happened to me, and I was very disappointed. With all the talk on these boards about the player base being mature, I felt it necessary to state that that is not always the case, unfortunately.
Thanks for listening to the rant.
