So, I was solo at the spider camp in icefall last night just minding my own business, when I ran into some trouble. I can handle the spider camp solo once I get the spawn broken, sometimes even enough to pull an icepile or two in between spidey spawn. I had invited a guildy chanty to come down and help out a little and so I could help him with some xp. A necro logs in and asks if I want to join up. I think about it for a min, and think, well, with a necro pulling we could kill a little more, ok. He says we (his group) have 3 peeps. I then say, oh, nm, thanks anyway. He then takes his group to the opposite side of the plateau where the spiders spawn and starts pulling spiders. No asking, no notification, nothing. I tell them very politely that this spot is camped and to please leave. There are at this point only about 2 or 3 other peeps in the entire zone, so there are plenty of spots to kill. The necro tells me there are plenty of mobs and we should share. Needless to say after all of the spiders are killed, we start fighting for mobs.

Now, with insta-nukes, I have a distinct advantage when it comes to pulling. One pops near where they're set up, and I pull it. Apparently the necro didn't like that so he aggroes the icepile that roams the ramp next to the camp and FD right next to me. Of course, it just ended up being more xp for me. So, I announce in /ooc that "Watch out for XXXX, he likes to steal camps by training you." The warrior in his group then says that I was stealing their mobs. I tried to explain to them several times that this is a one camp spot, it was not meant to be shared and they were infringing on my ability to play. The necro then tries to ks me on a kill (silly necro, not gonna out dps a wizzy in a quick fight). The warrior then asks me why I just don't want to join them. I then spout off a long list of reasons why I wouldn't want to join up with a bunch of training, ks'ing camp stealers. I told him I had this camp well in hand when they showed up and tried to steal it from me. He then tells me that the spot was meant to be grouped, not soloed, LOL. I pulled another spider, but as I hit the insta nuke key the snare from the druid in their group landed. Of course I got aggro, and me and the druid fought back and forth over the spider, with me being the victor (which was a little funny since there was another spider he could have pulled instead of trying to fight a losing battle with me). I felt bad because technically I had ks'd, but it wouldn't have been an issue if they hadn't forced it. Right after that the necro trained me and the chanter (who had just recently made it to camp) with a bunch of gobbies from the plateau below camp site and I died. I ran back to camp as quick as I could (not giving up without a fight), and another group of peeps had shown up to take the camp. Being from a guild I've had good experiences with in the past, I told them the story, and they ended up taking over the camp. By the time they were setting up the necro had either died or gated, and the warrior had died. I logged soon thereafter so angry I did not want to play anymore (at least for the night).

Anyway, a couple of questions

1) Is there anything I could have done short of resorting to their unscrupulous tactics to resolve the situation?

2) Did I do anything wrong in this instance?

3) What are some of your horrible experiences?

It has been a LONG time since anything even remotely like this has happened to me, and I was very disappointed. With all the talk on these boards about the player base being mature, I felt it necessary to state that that is not always the case, unfortunately.

Thanks for listening to the rant.

Short of moving on, not really. You could contact an officer in his guild perhaps, but thats really about it.

From this info you provided, not really. The necro, however, broke several rules by training large numbers of mobs on top of you.

Technically, yes, by the play nice policy you have to share, as camps are not recognized by the PnP. However, breaking someones camp, even a soloers camp, is generally considered a big no-no on most servers by the population.

I have had the same problem, same spot. Been a few months though. Once I was just too tired to give a $%^& , the other time I kept snaring them as they popped and keeping them all near me. Had 5 going at once most of the time. Group finally moved on and left my camp. They had set up on the hill around the corner.

Traditionally, common courtesy asking if you can share a camp has gone the way of the dinosaur. I still ask to share if it is someplace I really need something from, otherwise I go somewhere else. We have how many countless zones to go to now? Pick one, move on.

I've had a few cases with that, I just take as much of it as i can, then start training them, i may die, but atleast i take them with me, sounds a harsh tatic but it works, and they dont come back

That stuff will always happen from time to time. Last night was the opposite for me. My group was doing a quest in Arcstone and the fire mobs we needed were being camped by a 75 shammy solo. We asked if he minded us taking the 10 mobs we needed plus 4 hearts for the 5 in our group that needed them. He let us loot what he had already killed, and joined out group tanking the rest. In the course we killed the named and my wife's cleric got an upgrade on the drop. He was soloing what our group of Casual 71s camp to group but he cut 1/2 hour off our quest. It is nice to run into the uber players like him.

Dire;
First, I play on Zek ( have since Vallon opened) so that I do fight for camp spots.
That being said, I think it is rude and juvenile to take over a camp that someone is clearly working. You are right, they do not own it, but as to your logic, if you come across a spot that someone else is camping, go find another one.
To train someone, or otherwise try to ruin their experience is childish. If you want to do that, go play WOW. Smiley: sly
Or come to Zek, where it is expected to fight for camps.

Did you try a /who all gm? If there was a gm online by chance you could explain the issue and the GM could have come in stealth mode and discover the other group trying to KS and even training you.

Other than that feed the KSing and camp stealing twit to your guild's blacklist and also pass it among your friends. If the players have done this before, you might hear about it and have a legitimate reason to be on your toes.

YOU DO NOT OWN EQ CAMPS, there are hundreds of zones in eq, if you dont like someone in a zone, just leave or go to different spot, sony even tells players you cant claim a camp, it is ridiculus to fight over any area in the game. Even if you need certain mob (which you dont for exp) then you can just wait an hour and come back. People sometimes tell me i have stolen their camp , even if i had all ready been there before them, i tell them they dont own the zone.

If you really cant stand people taking "your" mobs, then play on ZEk and kill them. Otherwise just shut up and go elsewhere cry baby.

Yes, you can't own camps as far as SoE is concerned. How ever the vast majoirty of the players do recognize camps and frown heavily on camp busters. Give that EQ is a social game, busting peoples camps, as well as intentionally training them as this necro did, is a good way to have folks want to have nothing to do with you.

The exact same thing happens ALL the time.. only thing you can do is like stated above, contact officer of his guild, leave the zone, out kill him.

Thats it...

I haven't had this happen to me in a LONG time. My way to handle it has allways been, if the offending player has a guild tag, to contact a guild officer and relate what is going on. Every time the offender has left shortly after I had talked to the guild officer. And, usually I have recieved a personal apology from the guild. Once even had an offer from a top raiding guild to pay plat for the lost game time - turned it down - guild wasn't responsible for thier errant player.

If not guilded, I usually just move to another spot. I'm a causual player and the game is too big to waste time and stomach linig over some twrip's attitude.
