I came home from work Wed Feb 21st 2007 and booted my computer up and logged right on into everquest no issues.

While relentlessly slaughtering in bloodfields I crash to desktop.. hmm this never happened before.

I start to log back into everquest, and it pops up a new pre-download-patch window, I am like this is differant.

I get welcomed with a new blue login screen and updating screen, so I am sitting here and downloading (35 minutes on Adsl.. ouch).

It finishes the download, I exit everquest (without even going to server select)

And I am greeted with......

c:\windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt

WTF? thats the registry VERY bad..

I am able to pull Tuesday Midnights registry back into my system and get it back up, everything seems normal and here I sit patching again (should not be, the patch only checks the files and it already downloaded all the files).

Anyone else experience anything like this? Please dont tell me they are tring to keep a file list and version library in my registry (shudder).

Peace

OMG....

After 1.5 hours Eq finally patched to full after it ended with the Huge UPDATING button staying there and me having to click Download 3 times to force it through.

Once it was up and running, my trader in bazaar and setup.

I fire up another instance of everquest to put up my barter in bazaar, and what do I see? PATCHING!!!

Its in the SAME directory as the other instance, not using wineq or anything, the files are PATCHED what gives?

Well I am off to work and will just pray that it dont BSOD again with c:\windows\system32\config\system missing or corrupt.

Peace

Sounds like you need to run a chkdsk and tell it to do a surface scan. If there's a questionable area of your hard drive and the EQ patcher (or anything else) downloads a bunch of files which start to fill into the questionable area, behavior like what you describe can occur.

i have never had windows check disk ever help any problem.

and i have been using windows since win v 3.11.

The more you patch a game, the higher the higher the chance file will get part of it corrupted, all you can do to fix it is reinstall or repatch.

Nothing else will work, i assure you of that.
