Hi all, I have not ordered the new expansion and was wondering if anyone had done a ship battle. Is it random ships passing in the zone? or maybe an instanced zone? or what?

I haven't played it but my understanding was that it's essentially an instanced zone with two stationary Ykesha-esque vessels.

Yes the ships are stationary and because you are on a "shipdeck" the fighting area is cramped and cumbersome. The ships are joined by two gang planks that seem to have a wider walking surface than appears in the graphics. You walk across to pull the mobs from their ship to yours and that is that. The graphics look like ykesia but upgraded a little. The experience is similar to a dungeon crawl because the fight area is tight and one heal too many or resisted mez causes casters/healers to get squashed and squashed fairly quickly too.

ROFLMAO - well, so much for the much-touted ship-to-ship combat then! It might as well be two large rocks with a rope bridge! I was hoping for a bit of manoeuvring, cannon fire, attacking hulls and sails with spells :(

Heh. I would say you have high expectations. The doors and catapults anre other structures that we "broke down" in PoR should have removed that expectation. THe graphics in the ship to ship battles are pretty cool but its not nearly that interactive.

Well, I had an inkling that my expectations would inevitably be crushed - it IS Sony, after all - but I didn't expect them to be crushed as badly as that. How they dare advertise it as a ship-to-ship combat system baffles me. Way to go, Sony! :)

Ok here is what I thought was going to be in the new expansion.

Revamp or existing Timorous Deep, Moving ships, random or set paths, filled with mobs.

Grab one at an island.. clear it or wipe in a big battle and then move around the zone the boat, kind of like a moving camp.

repops of course but also other moving ships with mobs that get agro on you and the entire mob ship moves toward you. Or something of that order.

How bout this, Your toon gets home city bonuses to attack etc. But only if it is clear of undead or some other mob du jour attacking the city. There would be a purpose to use the cities, build faction adventure in the old cities, and more of a reason to play than watch the exp bar slowly go up.

Edit.. Hey, someone rated me down! Was my post that bad? :)

a few dev's posted that they never intended the marketing guys to tote the ship to ship combat system as one of the big bullet points of the expansion. While something more than a static ship would have been cool i think it would have been expecting a bit to much for the limits they have to work within when making new content.
