10 things you miss.Follow

I quit EQ sometime back around 2004 or so. Came back twice for a month at a time but realized getting a group (tribunal server) was more difficult than breaking into fear solo.
But i still watch the boards to see how the game has progressed and to see whats going on. The game has changed alot since I started playing, too much for me to come back (I have 1 AA point). But I miss the old days so I started thinking about what I missed the most and decided to post them. It would be nice if you guys would do the same so i can see how it compares. There were alot of zones I never got to or didn't spend much time in.

1. Qeynos and BlackBurrow. I was a druid from high in the trees but i ran my happy *** without SOW to Qeynos and binded myself there because I just loved that area. Remember when people camped those two sitting at the campfire at the entrance to surefall glade.
2. The Oasis. Stupid madmen and Cazel always added when i was fighting crocs.
Camping at Orc Highway was fun though.
3. Lake of Ill Omen is probably what i miss the most. It wasn't extremely pretty and it was a pain in the *** runnin thorough the spiders from firiona Vie but i spent alot of time leveling there.
4. Usually after LoIO you'd move to frontier mountains and then to the overthere. I like the giant fort at frontier mountains. Didn't care much for the overthere.
5. I miss having like 5 hps and barely making it to the zone.
6. I miss zones like south karana and high hold keep and LoIo being so camped you had to wait like 30 min to get in a group. It's sad to know nobody EVER goes there anymore.
7. I miss the E commons tunnels being packed. (selling everything on me at first torch!)
8. I miss walking by and buffing people just to help them out.
9. I miss the feeling i got from this game for the first few years.
10. I miss the fact that people got together to play and have fun. Nobody asked you how many AA points you had or what gear you had. They just wanted a group and to kill some mobs and level and have some fun. So many people blame SOE for the negative aspects of EQ, EQ2 etc.. I agree to some point. But i also blame the self-absorbed, self-righteous, "what's in it for me" attitude of some players.

I realize i will probably get flamed for 10. I don't care. I left my feelings in my other pants. And I didn't mean to end on a somewhat negative note, it just kinda came out. But please post what you miss about the old game if anything.

I agree... Loved the :Grouping: for fun aspect, not group to lvl to 75... :(
EQ was great fun until they started spitting out expansion after expansion, but what the hay, more money for them right?

We will always play EQ cause its evercrack, and we can't shake the trend. =D

The wide-eyed MMORPG honeymoon is over. Just take solace that you were there for it.

I miss some of my old friends Smiley: frown

But, although it is not popular to say so, I really like the way the game has developed and enjoy playing it every bit as much today as I did at the beginning.

Spent a few hours on Sunday with a group getting keys for Vergalid Mines, seemed a hell of a lot like camping Splitpaw to me, only the graphics were better :)

As joph said, you can never recapture the joy of doing something nice for the first time.

I miss pretty much everything you listed. Mostly I miss grouping with people for experience. My rogue is 63 and was born in 2001! I did take a couple of breaks though, 1 year while I was in Iraq and then 2 1/2 years shortly after returning. I have only recently started playing again, went from 61 to 63 on my rogue and from 13 to 43 on my necro...mostly solo or duo with my brother because finding a group is next to impossible. Yes there are the dain missions...easy exp without risk and yes I have done a couple but I'm just not a big fan of them, don't ask me why. I guess it just "doesn't feel right".

I miss the comoraderie between players, higher lvl people willing to help lower lvls. I was bored one night not too long ago ( because I couldn't get a group with my rogue) so I logged my druid on and went to Nek forrest and pled a new necro, then I went to PC and pled a ranger for a little while. This made me feel good and it gave me something to do. Both were very thankful.

BTW, LoIO is still a great zone, almost better now because there is no competition over mobs there. I lvled my necro from 15 to 25 there and the only time I ever saw anyone else in the zone was because they were going to Veksar.

It's not so much the game of the old days I miss as much as it is the people of the old days...it was the people that made the game great.

I really miss doing everything for the first time in EQ... I remember when I very first started (probably like the first hour), this level 20 or so chanter gave me a Stein of Moggok (sp?) and a Dragoon Dirk and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. I was devistated when I equipped it into the ranged slot and threw it! I also remember thinking that to pierce a mob I had to run back and forth at it lol. One thing I don't miss is my computer being so terrible that it took me 20 mins to zone into PoK and another 20 minutes to walk a few feet =D
