Was just wondering if the items needed from Quest NPC's for the Epic quest's drop everytime? Specifically in my case, Kurron Ni in OT that is first hit in SK Epic 1.0 should drop a Letter to Duriek when killed after turning in the 3 Darkforge armor pieces and 900pp, yet when I killed him he didn't drop. Is this common? Do they really make it to where a guy that only spawns every 2-7 days for a major quest like the Epic's may not drop what is needed? Someone please respond to this. Thanks.
It's worse than that. Many epic mobs spawn every 2-7 days and are killed within 30 seconds of spawning. Well, that's an exaggeration but it sure seems that way. In over two years of playing EQ I have *never* seen actually seen the dragons Severilous or Gorenaire, though I have spent hours and hours at various times looking.
And it is true that many epic mobs do not always drop your required item. Usually they will drop your item if they are spawned as a result of some turn-in, but if they are a random spawn then your item could even be an uncommon drop.

I killed Phinney for the bard epic so many times that I finally lost count. He never did drop his spine for me (the spineless wimp). He dropped every other item that he can dop but not the spine. I had to get that item from a multi-quest.
However, you say that you did a turn in before you killed him. I am under the impression that a sucessful kill after a turn in results in an epic drop. In your case I would send an inquiry to a gm about this. If you have to kill him as often as I killed Phinny (over 20) then you will be broke at 900p a pop. Not to mention the time needed to gather your armor pieced again.

Had a similar issue on my warriors Epic 1.0. 3 visits to POFear to kill golems, eight golems down no ball for me :-(. After 3rd frustrating visit gave up, did the prequest and completed 1.5.

Ask a ranger about epic drops in Plane of Hate and watch him break down and cry. No mob is (to my knowledge) hard-coded to give a certain drop. The chance of a given drop maybe close to 1, but here's always that tiny chance that you are unlucky. Or, if you're a ranger, a good chance that the people at SOE is having a big old laugh at your expense. Again.

*cries*... I just started a new ranger, after having to live through 1.0 once... Why did you have to remind me!?
Though, I did finally get it in less than a week... the Swirling Sphere of Colour I got through a multiquest, so I was happy about that.
