i am trying to settle an arguement with the little woman...so any answers would be appreciated. I'd love to hear her say..." I was wrong "

What was the date the SLEEPER was first killed?

If no one knows that exact date, or if they do..does anyone remeber the details of it?

Thanks

Nov. 17th, 2003 from the looks of it.

This thread had more details on how it was done. Apparently by using a lot of pets and a whole lot of rezzes.

The Sleeper is a raid encounter that used to be in th Sleeper's Tomb, but is now in the mob graveyard. Here is some info on her.

Sleeper is probably the rarest mob period. If you haven't seen one yet, you will not see it unless they are still sleeping on the 2 new servers.

I do wonder how we could handle sleeper now with a raid part of level 75 toons with over 25k hp buffed tanks, more powerful gears and better spells and pets, monster manaburns, etc. It'd still probably end up a mostly zerg raid but in less than 3 hours.

Without bothering to actually look, I'll state with utmost certainity that waking the Sleeper was a Velious requirement for opening Luclin on the Progression servers.

Sort of...

This quest is how one goes about gaining access to the zone Sleeper's Tomb.

There are two versions of the zone. I will call them the Pre-Awaken and Post-Awaken version.

In the Pre-Awake version, the final four mobs are guarding the spell/curse/whatever that is keeping the Sleeper asleep. When Velious was new, it took raid forces just to reach this area and slay the warders guarding the Sleeper. You could kill three of them without anything happening. The three would respawn just like other raid mobs. If all four were killed, then the Sleeper would awaken. This kicked off a scipt on server.

First the Sleeper would attack (and kill) everyone that was in the Sleeper Tomb's zone. The Sleeper would then make its way to Skyshrine killing players along the way. Yada, Yada, Yada, and the script ended.

Since the Sleeper was awakened, the zone takes on the Post-Awaken version. Some of the mobs and loot are different, but you could still raid there and everything was fine. Some loot was only available in the Pre-Awaken version of the zone.

Back in 2003, the Sleeper scriipt had been run on most of the "blue" (non-PVP servers). The script was well known by this point. Many people thought that the Sleeper was unkillable. In actuality, the Sleeper only had really high AC and a gazillion-bajillion HP. On one of the Zek servers, everyone banded together and fought the Sleeper in an orgnaized fashion instead of just getting slaughtered by the script.

The Sleeper was never really designed to be killed or raided.

Just for added trivia, the Velious developers have said that the whole unique Sleeper script idea was a bad choice. Their intent was simply that people would progress through the content, wake the Sleeper, complete the Velious storyline and wait happily for Luclin to be released. What happened instead was a bunch of drama between guilds as people would farm the warders for the unique drops and then wake the Sleeper so no one else could get those drops again or servers who left the Sleeper in stasis for years so they could farm the zone, etc. If they had to do it all over again, they'd have probably modified the script so it was a repeatable zone-wide event rather than a unique server-wide one.

Then again, I remember McQuaid once saying how they were suprised to learn of people "camping" mobs and thought that everyone would be happily crawling dungeons top to bottom rather than parking in one room for six hours. The old EQ developers could be charmingly naive Smiley: laugh
