i got eq platinum through direct download and followed all of the instructions. any ideas on why the ingame performance is so bad? i have a 7950 GT so i dont think thats the problem. when i attack something the MOB just stands there no movement. and it also looks like im constantly crouching

any ideas on how to fix this?

any input would be grand!

Umm, you haven't accidentally pressed the "D" key have you? As a 51 Druid you'd know all about ducking I'm sure, but the sympoms you describe fit perfectly with being ducked.

I think a pulley and rope can run EQ smoothly. Its an ancient game engine.

Something fishy here. It is definitely not a performance issue.

I use NVidia 6800 which is more than a couple years old and EQ runs just fine on my PC.

A few things come to my mind:

Dual core CPU don't handle EQ well. Set the processor to use only 1 core when running EQ.

Some eye candies like shadow are a major resource hog. Turn it off.

Dual monitor can also slow EQ signifiantly so if you have dual setting, turn off one monitor via video card properties and see if EQ runs better with only single monitor.

Need more info though.

i do have a dual core processor, thankee for the info! im wondering why dual core doesn't run it well. ill post a screenshot onto how awful it looks. I played on a sony vaio in 99 and it looked much better back then. Funny thing is is that it played vg so smoothly.

should i go into bios to change it to single core?

thanks alot

On the EQ tech boards, there's a fix for the dual core problem. It's #5 on this list and is for a program called RunFirst. I've used RunFirst on a couple different computers with dual core and it works fine.

DirectX doesn't have anything to do with the game engine itself, which was designed back in the 90s.

LOL, ok what do you think Direct X is exactly??? Dx is called a "software development package" which means it is the tools developers use to make games. The DX version effects how the game looks and performs and is the core of the game engine it self. if you dont believe me, uninstall DX form your system and eq will not run.

your cable modem is EQ's graphics engine.

uninstall your cable modem, and EQ will not run, QED.

1.) DirectX is a graphics engine. While it assists the game developer in fast, accurate rendering and other graphic requirements. I do not believe EQ used DX9 when it first came out, but as the graphics grow, so do the graphic requirements. The game engine itself controls much more than the graphics.

2.) I have a brand new computer with a dual core processor, haven't had any issues with performance in EQ.
