Things like the new expansion make me miss the old gameFollow

I would probably come back to the game if there was a pre-PoP server. Call me old school, but I miss the game when it was hard. from post-luclin on i've liked the game less and less. I think they should bring back the old Guk server (anyone remember that? I think it closed sometime after velious) just for pre-PoP or pre-luclin. whos with me? =D

IMO the game is harder now then it used to be. People are alot more picky who they will group with making getting a group harder. Mobs in newer expansions hit alot harder and do all sorts of funky stuff. Tanks without gobs and gobs of AA's and/or high end raid gear can't hardly group in newer expansions. Pre POP there was only a small percentage of zones the casuals didn't get to see. Now there is quite a large percent of them. I mean pre POP if you was a tank who was lvl 60 and had some Kunark/thurgadin quested armor you was generally good to go. Anything you couldn't take past that point was probably a hardcore Raid mob anyways. Pretty much any single group mob you was fine with though.

The progression servers start at the very begining. Don't know how far they have progressed at this point, but there are specific events that spawn the next expansion. Until a PC completes those events, the next expansion remains locked.

Also if you liked the hard things about the game (running for 6 hours to find a corpse at 6am when noone with sow was around, etc.) Just avoid using the ëasy"things that made the game more enjoyable for many of us. I hated running from Neriak all the way to LoIO. Binding was cool for keeping CR short, but what about when you need something at home. If you were a limited time player, that kind of run could kill the majority, if not all, your time online that day...

EQPlayers shows most of the PoP and some of the GoD content unlocked on those servers. Basically some particularly motivated guilds are leaving everyone else in the dust.

Progression was a good idea for servers, but if they try it again I hope they implement it slightly differently so that folks desiring "old" content can be happy whatever their definition of "old" is.

My suggestion would be to have a separate server for each expansion. If there are 20 expansions you would have 20 servers. Everyone starts out on the first server (original game). In order to be transferred to the next server in the progression, which contains the next expansion including prior content, you would have to achieve certain flags or goals and request a free progression transfer. So, you could make it through Kunark, for example, and choose to remain there. That way you wouldn't have GoD-era gear in the EC-tunnel or bazaar or whatever spoiling your the sense of achievement taking out Kunark-era targets.

On the other hand, I'm not sure the current EQ population supports 20 servers, let alone 20 progression servers.

what? EQ is SO MUCH EASIER than it used to be. are there ANY modern camps that have breakins? pickier about who they group with? do you remember rangers in kunark? or warriors pre-EB weapons preGoD? what zones can a casual well-geared with singlegroup gear from previous zones not go to? do you remember wiping in the disco, and having to try for hours to get your corpse back?

do you realize that getting to 60 in velious or luclin took more time than getting to 75 + 200 aa today?

and btw, I don't remember many people without raid gear that did kael arena or platehouse prepop with a single group...

do you actually play everquest?

The progression servers were never like the "old game" even on day 1.
