Everquest is a wonderful game. I have played on and off for 7 years.

That said, you will not find alot of new players if you are just starting out.

Try Vanguard: Saga of Heroes when it is released on January 30th or try World of Warcraft for a large player base.

I am not saying those games are better or that you will enjoy Everquest less but they will have a larger group of people to interact with at level 1.

If you are looking to try Everquest as an introduction to the social and "massive" aspect of the MMOG genre, you might be underwhelmed. Alot of people still play but they are concentrated in certain zones.

The newbie zones are deserted these days, partly due to lack of new players and partly due to most long-established players being in upper-end zones all the time. The guild I am in has lost over 40% of its members, most of whom have gone on to newer MMORPGS. Heck, I was in PoK the other day and there was a grand total of 19 people in there, whereas at one time it would have been over 100+ :(

new players to EQ, just a few, true.,

BUT, create a toon that can solo exceptionally well (i.e. Necro, Beastlord, Shaman, Mage, Druid), learn the ropes, find a guild, create alts and enjoy the (imho) most complex, challenging and most rewarding MMORPG.
