For the Wis based classes...Shaman, Pally, etc....Does Int play a role in how fast you get a skill raised? Also, does the level of the mob affect your melee skill up rate? It seems like it takes forever to get a melee skill increase on a green mob, but that may just be my impatience.

I am not thinking about tradeskill increases. Just the spell and melee ones. I guess(?) Int rules for tradeskills.

Thanks for your help.

I'm not 100% sure (but almost) but I don't think int has any impact on spell related skill ups. I'm not even sure that wis does.

As for melee skill ups, you can't skill up on green mobs. You have to at least be able to get exp from the mob so try light blues at least.

Dex has some effect on your chance to get a melee skillup. Green mobs do indeed give xp now with the new con system change. Gray is the only non-xp color now. I have gotten melee skillups off green mobs, but your chances are better if the mob is closer to your level. You want to get a fast delay weapon and boost Dex and get as much haste as you can when trying to melee skillup.

Wis based casters do not use INT for any skillup I think. Casting skillups are based on your mana stat, in your case WIS, and you can get skillups from casting on gray, green, or any level mob, or from casting on a corpse or yourself for that matter.

Since they changed the color conning system, you now can get both experience and skillups on green mobs.

hmm...I am not sure, but I got the impression (when playing WIS alts), that of course the mana pool for WIS classes depends on WIS, but skillups (both casting as well as languages) depend on INT.

anyone knows for sure?

Everything you ever wanted to know about skillups but were afraid to ask.

Casting skillups depend on whichever is higher int or wis. It's been proven and parsed ad nauseum.

Offensive/defensive skillups can happen on any mob that will give xp so yes that means green mobs now.

Dex is the primary stat used for offensive skillups while agility is the primary stat for defensive.

Yes you can still get skillups while dueling a pet class as long as the pet is at least green to you.

Tradeskills use the higher of int or wis when determining skillups except in a few cases like fletching, smithing which CAN use dex (fletching) or str(smithing) if those are higher than your int/wis.

Tradeskill success rates are determined by your modded skill vs the trivial for the item you are making.

I have seen skills go up on spell skills ,but not on melee skills when fighting grey mobs. Spell skills seem to go up on anything!

Thanks for the great input.

Warning: Just to pad the post count, since elne clare is gaining on me with all her asylum posts.

Summing up all of the above posters.
In tradeskills it is your Wisdom or Intelligence whichever is higher for a skill up. There are two trades at which other stats are checked. Blacksmithing will look at Str and work off the higest of the three, and Fletching will use Dex.
For Weapons skills it is dex to improve, for defensive skills such as dodge it is agility.

Someone should sticky this in the FAQ section. Along with a post on "Changes in the game since I last played"

In an effort to add some personal experience to this discussion (and to try to catch up with Jonwin's post count) I'll add that having a high wis/int or high str/dex makes a big difference for the associated skill-ups. However, the agi stat makes little difference to a melee class. Defensive skills have never, ever been a problem for me to raise regardless of agi, provided it's in the 80-100 range.

Edit: hey, look at that, I AM ahead of Jonwin, finally ;P
