new install need help pleaseFollow

Hello I'm sorry if this post is OOT. I'm new to EQ area of alla as im a ffxiplayer i'm trying to help out a friend who is not that knowledgable of pc/softwre.

My problem is she installed eq titaniume (sp) and it was stuck in the DL patch loop before there was a fix for that. I unistalled thinking it was a fire wall/ V scan issue with the instaltion and scan /defrag then reinstalled with fire wall and v scan disabled.

Now when I click on eq icon it gives me the patch locator window and says searching or loading i forget it was midnight when I gave up. but it says its unable to conenct in a seprate window telling em to contach etech somthing or other. I have tried to call SOE techs but holiday hours and being so late at night didn't work out so well. I did replace teh everquest.exe 10/17/05 with 10/12/05 exe still didnt work. I know the laptop is "up to date" in hardware and Os it win xp pro pent 4 proccessor forget the specs and 1gb ram with over 30 gigs of hd space left. as far as what video/ sound cards that idk but the laptop is less then 6 months old so it can't be "that bad".


Any help whoudl be grately apprciated (sp)

I did uninstall and deleate \soney and its contents before I sacn/defrag \install.

She hasn't gotten a chance to play yet as she came to me with the patch \loop probelem,I assumed it was a vscan running in back ground while she tried to install the game as I've has problems before cause of such thing. So theres no player info to save yet.

I was running it off a router and modem when I installed that wasnt the issue as I had net connection I even rebooted modem and router just incase as FFXI tends to bogg down my connection speed if left on for a few days.


I didnt reg-edit as I don't know enough about it atm to atempt it on someone elses pc.


I didn't want to mess with drivers yet although I havent ruled that option out yet, Since it was "working" before just caught in the patch dl\loop bug thats been since resolved on SOE ends. I was not aware at the time thats was a server side problem when she brought the problem to me.
