so just curious how many people are going to try vanguard or as I call it eq 3. How many of you are planning on leaving eq permantely for it or your entire guild is breaking up bc of it. I do believe it will hurt in some ways but also believe some people will return once thye get a chance to play it, I tried the beta didn't care for it myself. I do think and believe another server merge may happen as well.

Since it is going to be distributed by Sony I'm assuming you'll be able to play by buying the game and using a station account. If so, I imagine many will try it, some will like it and stay, some will not and be back and some may just play them both.

Computers could be a real issue, however, you're gonna need a pretty high-end unit to play Vg with any success.

I'll be playing at release...whenever that may be.

thank you and I am not half asleep helps as well LOL. I know what you mean

sure my computer is not the latest and greatest, however I do agree once people

see what type of pc they will need to run it properly allot shall return. I

believe that a pc from walmart at $199.99 will not cut it either more like a

$3000.00 plus dell. I have heard and believe it will run allot better on dual

core, 1 gig of ram really 2 gigs who we kidding or more, 512 mb vido card and

they say windows xp will do but windows vista bc of the new graphics and the

way it handles them I soppose. i did not like it either main reason reminds me

of everquest 2 which I can't stand but just my prefrence.

I've tried several mmorpgs over the years, and keep coming back to good old EQ. I don't know what it is, but I've yet to play a mmorpg that keeps me interested as much as EQ does.

I won't be playing Vanguard,

yeah same here I have tried final fantasy 11 not for me dungeon and dragons all

I will say is they ruined a classic, world of warcraft is ok but again not for

me. I believe the reason most stick with eq bc it was their first ever role

playing game. It maybe old but that is just it being old people know what to

except and how to play their toon and have to much time and money invested in

it. I am like most people as well to really play any of these latest and

greatest games including warhmammer online will require buying the game, paying

for a subscption buying most likely a whole new pc which most of us can't

afford. most of us have more important things going on in our lifes than

playing a game and and trying to keep up and the fact stating over turns allot

of people off.

I have found alot of modern MMORPG are very similar. WOW and Eq2 play almost exactly the same IMO. These new MMORPG games take the things I like about Eq1 and simply take them away from me.

I will be giving VG a try, will upgrade to a station pass on one of my accounts. Something new and fresh but with the old EQ style is what I am looking for. For my 2 cents Sony could build a new MMORPH, 100% EQ but with 100% new zones. New zones explore and combat strategies to solve. Progression Servers showed how easy it is to move through content when zones, drops and strategies are already known.

Since this will never happen I will keep looking for that EQ clone and playing EQ until I find it.

Eq1 was my first MMORPG that dealt with the fantasy environment. I actually played Motor City online for awhile before it went belly up. EQ1 will always be my favorite online game.

EQ2 was fun for a bit because I liked finding similiarities between the two MMORPGS. However, the latest expansion for EQ2 is not appealing to me at all simply because I never created a character and leveled in the Faydark, unrest, crushbone environment. It looks pretty and a lot of people like the new expansion but its not for me.

I dislike the new Freeport and Commonlands areas... I feel that SOE is trying too hard to appeal to the WoW generation and such. Heck, I even miss the old orc graphics.... But if SoE thinks that these changes will keep EQ1 alive then I understand.

I haven't checked out Vanguard at all yet. I am still waiting for the next MMoRPG to come out. There seems to be a lot of junk in the marketplace right now. In a way, the lack of competition is keeping eq1 alive. As soon as a great MMoRPG is released then EQ1 and EQOA (playstation 2) are done.

After looking at the site and what is written about VG.. it seems to be EQ1 with DDO graphics. Not a bad combination.

DDO was really nice looking, but the world was WAY too limited.. like playing EQ1 but only in Freeport.

My husband and I have already bought the pre-release to join in the beta. I look forward to starting at the beginning of the next gen EQ. We missed out on the early years of EQ. I would think many would welcome a whole new exciting world that Vanguard seems to be offering. See some of you there. : )

cjguy, you do understand that you are under a NDA (Non Disclosure Agreement) that includes and is not limited to talking about Vanguards technical performance?

***** the NDA, if Sigil blatantly Lie about minimum specs i feel no need to wait untill the NDA is lift to warn people about it.

With my system (which is over minimum specs) i was running at a massive 1-3 FPS.

Charicter selection was laggy FFS and that was with 5 meg broadband.

I plan to give Vanguard a try but I will continue to play EQ1 and I've also been mulling over the idea of giving EQ2 another chance.

Fortunately I'll be able to do all those things with one low fee. :)

I have high hopes for Vanguard despite the grumblings you see here and there on these message boards.

I plan to give it a try. I bought it in May last year (pre order) and am looking forward to it, actually. I played DAOC off and on, and to tell the truth, parts of DAOC I really enjoyed. I missed my old friends at EQ, kept my subscription going, and have played since, although most of my friends/guild are long gone. TSS was the best thing to happen to EQ in quite a while....I enjoy the quests for newbies (my new Drakkin). I think I could spend the next year in SS alone. Some of my old, longtime EQ friends w/o hi end PC's can't reliably play in TSS, so I doubt if they will even give Vanguard a try. What's his name.....Brad is the main reason I'll give it a go. He hooked me on EQ, I'll give him a shot.

NDA has been officially lifted on Vg beta:

Some screen shots for your viewing pleasure. If mods here have any problems with this post, feel free to BAMM it.

Meet Elinda the DE Disciple. In the background is the city of Khal on the continent of Qalia. The city is really far away but you can see the two carved sentinels that stand guard at the gates.

A tree.

A UI shot. I'm just pulling into Darkhorse Downs, a racetrack with loads of fun stuff. The camera angles are really easy to manuever. For one, you can tilt your view up and down while scrolled out...you know how much that messes with me when I log back into EQ?!?

Just out exploring.

A Dwarf Sorcerer I made to check out the continent of Thestra.

The game runs well for me with the graphic settings you see. I don't change them to take pics. I have a new Gateway GT5252, an ok computer but certainly no super-gaming maching. It's stock except with an extra graphics card added.

Well, I played ok on my old unit. It was nothing special. I had to turn the graphics way down, all effects off, so the game didn't look very good. I lagged in crowded areas but it was playable. With the new computer game runs fine, and looks great.

I'm not sure what I'm gonna do.

I jumped into my current EQ guild at it's inception and have helped push it along towards it's goal of completing PoP Progression. We're moving along nicely for an unorganized, highly laidback, no requirement guild, but we won't make it by the end of this month.

All along I had assumed a March release for Vg, that would have fit into my gaming schedule better. Smiley: grin

Either way, since it'll be available with a station pass I'll be jumping in at release to try and secure character names and check things out, but will likely continue dumping the bulk of my gaming time into EQ.

Here is a site (my husbands actually) I have stuck a whole bunch of screenshots and a few musings about Vanguard. I've opened up all the posts to the public since NDA release. Feel free to take a look. Clicky

VG has flying mounts. Why can't EQ have them?

Maybe a griffin with a perm DMF or something.
