Might the next expansion introduce a "Pirate"-Class? Would make sense, as they are also planning on bringing the ships back up...

AARRRRRRR!!!

Would be great! Smiley: yippee

Maybe sharks with freaking lasers on their heads! Smiley: grin

Pirates are long overdue! I used to have a 50-something human warrior (with an eyepatch) named Deepwater Jack, but it just wasn't the same...

So will rogue's have to change their title of "swashbuckler"?

But wouldn't the introduction of a pirate class lower the fantasy of EQ, since pirates aren't very magical
Another point would their homecity be in gunthank/dulak?

You mean more so than the existing pirates in Ykesha, Iceclad, Timerous Deep, Ocean of Tears, Butcherblock and whatever other pirates I'm forgetting?

Even as a class, pirates are just as magical as warriors or rogues.

I don't see anything about a pirate class though. Might just be pirate based which would be kind of silly since we have a pirate themed expansion already.

Pirate's could be interesting. What would be their special talent? Seems like they'd be another non-magic class? Wonder if they'll be expanding off Ysheka??

Maybe they'll make a Ninja too, for added PvP fun. Smiley: grin

I guess that's why I don't see it. Pirates are just warriors or rogues who sail around and take stuff. Short of introducing a sailing skill, what special talents could they have? More to the point, what does a pirate bring to the game when you're deep in a dungeon cavern?

I could be wrong though... I would have asked what a druid would do in an underground cave if I wasn't familiar with the class itself

I doubt there would be a new class, but likely the new expansion involves (another) Pirate theme.

Kinda looking forward to Vanguard...

How long have berzerkers been around now? It seems like we are due for a new class.

#12 Dec 15 2006 at 8:34 AM Rating: Decent
They might get the ability to pick locks, who knows.
What i meant by pirates and the fantasy of EQ, i dont really see a cleric or a mage fitting in well with a pirate. The seem to me 2 completely different themes

Berserkers were introduced around February of 2004. Previous added class was Beastlords with Luclin? You might be right about a new class, but Pirate seems more like a life-style (i. e. Any class can be a pirate) Smiley: wink

Pirates can have the "peg-leg flurry", or infect the mob with scurvy. I can't imagine them being anything but another DPS class...but who knows maybe they'll have some cc or slowage or something.

Duel wielding scimitars is pretty piratey picturesqe. Maybe they'll be able to torture mobs with their Walking the Blank ability.

Class = lifestyle.

Edit: Maybe there won't be 'pirates' as a class but something like a Swashbuckler, that sounds a bit more defining for some reason.

Took me a while but I get what you mean. Medieval/Arthurian swords & magic milieu vs. the 1620's Caribbean sword & pistol genre.

Although there are pirates in The Lord of the Rings (sans firearms?). (Aragorn used the Pirate's Ships to transport the undead army to Minos Tirinth (sp?).)

Personal preference has always been that they slow the expansions down to once every 9-12 months.

And then add another zone or two (or redo an old since we have so many now) every 3-6 months that would be for the high-end raiders to try and conquer. Preferably the added zones would be free, but I wouldn't hold my breath now that it is SOE and not Verant.

No one is making you buy expansions. No one is forcing you to play in any expansion. You get most of the expansions in Titanium anyway yes? There are tons of stuff broken or in need of improvement or even not worth the effort of fixing, everyone knows this.

TSS is the first expansion in a long time that a new player might be interested in buying.

I am curious if the next expansion content will cater to low levels or will they return to the higher end stuff.

Can you really blame them for trying to hang on to their (high-end) subscribers by offering new content aimed at them? Besides they are updating old zones (albiet slow hehe).

The other nice thing about constant new expansions is that when the majority are off playing the new expansions the older ones are left relatively vacant.

Sure there are annoying un-fixes, but I don't think the game needs to be perfect in every aspect to be enjoyable.

If you want pirates, play Eve Online. Darn near everyone is a pirate!

If that is the case, I would be very interested in it! In all of Norrath, the Legacy of Ykesha.. from the Gunthak Beach to the bowels of Hate's Fury.. It has been my most enjoyable expansion.

If a Pirate class came about, thinking in reference to corruption magic? Perhaps a Hybrid class, using DoT's or Debuffs along the corruption line. That is about all the speculation I care to do, but I think it would be avast! er.. a blast!

Holy Zeks! I don't know what I would say about that. Guns are one reason why I don't play WoW or SWG.. but.. if my pirate gets a single shot flint-lock I probably won't complain a bit! /avarice!

There are some things that a pirate class could add. In my mind it would be a bard rogue hybrid. Something simular to back stab but only ranged. Thrown weapons that hit vital areas. Make a ranged hamstring or a ranged attack that hits a vital organ and drains like a dot until bandaged or a clot forms. And have a faction modifier ability. Seems like a pirate should be able to convince anyone that they are their friend at least long enough to make them think it over for a few minutes. Like a bluff ability. Maybe a FD ability where they drink too fast and pass out.

The class i would like is something like a jester. Simular to enchanters but have a luck or performance modifier where there is a chance that the result envokes the opposite. A make or break benifit. A juggling haste that makes the group erupt in a loud cheer. A mime impersonation for a mezz. A pie in the face to stun. When low on health, turn into 3 boxes to confuse mob into attacking maybe the wrong one before tank gets aggro back. Or could hide any one toon in one of the boxes. Or trap a box. The popular three stooges eye poke blind. Good joke bad joke as a faction modifier. Some awful dance routine with a bust your gut laughing slow. Maybe a yoyo snare. A throw your voice skill where the mobs runs in the wrong direction and the group can sneak by. Some kind of attack flurry with the balls on their hat. And if you failed the ability there would be a chance you could mez a group member, hit them with the pie, drop a juggling ball and group yawns and gets slowed, get tangled in the yoyo yourself, the dance inspires hatred and you get aggro quik. As for straight attacking. A puppet pet. Thrown objects. Its getting cartoonie but could be fun and its totally different.
