I saw the dire charm thread and have a question. Is Wake the Dead worth it? Its only 5 AA and its always nice to have another dead friend when soloin

Many times, during our trips to Sol Ro, there would be a solo Necro at the entrance, using Wake the Dead to force GFD's to help them kill other GFD's.
I would say it's a pretty usefull AA, especially for only 5AA points.

As I recall, the duration on it isn't good for more than a fight or two. But for only five AA, I'd get it. The novelty value alone is worth it.
Like the others, I'm confident that most necromancers use it just for the cheap laughs when someone types "OMGWTF ADDS!!!"

OK I can be honest now.
Part of the allure is livening up a dull group with an add out of no where.
It should help a bit soloing and the recast is only 9 min.

Is Wake the Dead fun? heck yes.
Is is useful.. very situationally.
One problem is if you WtD a caster.. it will cast. Sounds great.. but you WTD an Enchanter corpse it will a) dispel, b) root, c) mez and d) charm (using NPC casting rules.. so no level limits.. raid mobs have been charmed by WtD Enchanters.. which is "bad").
As such it is generally banned from raid use.
Army of the Dead, the follow on, is more useful because the pets are melee only. The DPS from these pets is negligible. But, they are useful as a buffer (sometimes.. but a single AoE Rampage will poof them =p).
There is an AA to lower the 9 minutes.
Yes, tanks and Enchanters really hate Wake the Dead. I have tons of funny pictures.. I bet everyone does.
Back before DoDH (and Army of the Dead) I listed Wake the Dead as a top 150 AA choice (cause it's fun). Now there are too many useful AA I would get first.. but I would certainly get the WtD/AotD line in my first 500 AA.
If you want maximum shock.. get the Cleric to hit Divine Arbitration at the same time you shout "add!".. that's always fun.

I regularly group with a necro, and he does it at least a few times a night. Of course how much is for DPS, and how much is for freaking people out, I don't even know.
Then again this is the same necro who has hotkeyed "Add NAMED" when he does use Wake the Dead. So, I do lean towards the idea that he likes to make sure we are all awake more then anything else.
And as Dot noted, the named or boss mobs seem to have the greatest likelihood of being resurrected.

Hell, I play both cleric and necro at 65+ and WtD still gets me! Sometimes, in a particularly foggy haze I'll forget when *I* used WtD and wonder where I got an add from. 
But they can be good to use at times. I spend time farming minor named (Noble's Causeway for example) and will get a good pop every half hour or so, at which point I'll use both WtD and AotD to take it down.
