Ok, so I decided to update all my EQ expansions to the current levels. All 12 expansions installed, so access won't be a problem. I'm looking for advice on how best to get back into the game. Leveling is my priority at the moment, I'm tired of being the worlds oldest lvl 52 ranger.

here is my current gear
https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/userinfo.html?char=377319
It's not completely out of date for my level near as I can tell from the bazaar, so I should be able to get by without worrying about upgradeing for a while. i think.

Soooo, what i'm looking for help/suggestions/ideas on would be where would be the best place currently for a lvl 52 ranger to go solo. As rusty as I am I don't think it would be wise for me to inflict myself on a group yet. Also any updates of interest to rangers that I may have missed would also be appriciated. Thanks in advance!

edit: also, any advice on the latest and greatest ranger specific UI would also be of interest.

Is your character creation date before Jan 2000? Belhade Baulien is still 52 also. Smiley: laugh

Geez Noob do a search theres like 800 threads like this :P

Seriously though TSS seems to be where all the cool kids play. Go check it out and jump into as many groups as you can. Also make sure you get some quests before you head out because the TSS quests give pretty decent gear and many will be upgrades for you.

And i doubt it needs to be said but if TSS yields you no groups hang out in the hotzones. Griegs end should be perfect and it seems to have a pretty healthy population since yesterday.

Good luck

Welcome back. As we tell all the n00bs, don't worry about gear, worry about making friends, finding a good guild, start your progression through PoP and get your epics. Gear will come. And Know This, Young Grasshopper: Thine Soloing Time Is Best Spent In TSS. Make sure your skills are maxxed out, do a search here for Wanderlust and Slipgear augments. Grab the Ore Hauler's Haversack from Crescent Reach, and you are good to go. Tour the lands, make sure you see it all and know your way around the (new) zones. Don't grind to reach X amount of xp, or you'll burn out. AAs are far easier at lower levels than they used to be, so experiment a little, maybe take time off regular XPing to get Run Speed 3 and Regen 3 like everybody else.

And stay away from monster missions.

Welcome back, Kaolian! Smiley: smile

I have to agree, if you got all expansions, you should go to TSS zones at the moment, as you will most likely find players there to group with.

If you wanna solo at 52, the area near Blightfire zone line in Goru'kar Mesa should be very easy (but won't give that much exp), the area near Blackfeather Roost zone line will be more challenging (mobs from lvl 45-50) but also more dangerous. You might want to try Blackfeather Roost itself, but haven't been there yet, so can't give you advice on it... Other than TSS, you could go to Dranik's Scar via the Priests of Discord; the caves to the instances contain bats and rats that give nice exp at your level as well as some gems, and they can be single-pulled.

Edit: What I forgot to say: if you choose to go to TSS zones, you will have the possibility to do very nice tasks that give quite good rewards AND get great levelling or AA exp at the same time...

I would suggest Blackfeather Roost. It has lots of animals near the entrance with a huge empty area to kite them in.

Welcome back!

I agree i Looove blackfeather roost. I have been quad kiting there on my druid since 51 now still there at 55 with 12 AAs.

Only thing about blackfeather roost is that the mobs have alot of HPs and at 52 they will still be mostly White and yellow cons to him on top of that they hit pretty hard for mid 50s mobs.

But there are also random gear drops that are pretty nice for the level.

First thing, gear-wise, is to bag all of the Tolans. It's nearly worthless as everyday gear but still good to keep for the clickies. Huge upgrades for all of those slots can be acquired very cheaply.

52 to about 62 (Endless Quiver and EM3) is a dead-spot for the soloing Ranger. You could still fear-kite in Jaggedpine (griffs) for a few levels, but it will get continually slower and slower (although I really loved Jaggedpine, and soloed there quite a bit). As far as grouping, Griegs End is a hotzone once again, and makes for some good experience(unless everyone is going to TSS these days). It's an outdoor zone, and Rangers really shine as pullers in there.

Kao I recomend getting AAs instead of leveling. The new AA exp changes make leveling AA faster when you are lower level, and alot of people are doing just that, resulting in more 50 and 60 /lfg then a few months ago. The population is still overwelming 70+ but the numbers of active 50s and 60s toons are growing. I recommend first go to Goru`kar Mesa ther are some easy and fun quest there to get you sarted and some like Kill Ursala will upgrade a few of your armor slots nicely. The guy who gives that quest will give easy quests that will upgrade your chest, legs, helm, arms, wrists, gloves and feet.

Alright, I think i'm still missing some new spells, but other than that I plan on making a day of it tomorrow. Stocked up on good stat foods, bandages, a few potion thingies, bunches of chipped bone rods in the bank. I still need to find a good ranger specific UI to replace the default one, mostly because i hate the sideways button bar. I want the old numberpad style one back! just haven't gotten around to finding one yet. Thats plan A for tomorrow. then we smite things! Thanks for the advice everyone!

I'm not sure what you mean about the old numberpad style, but look at hotbars 3 and 4, they are vertical instead of horizontal if that's what you're after. They're under the eq button -->actions tab, I think. And I'm going to jump on the "do TSS for gear" bandwagon. But don't forget about the spirit tracker cloak from PoRo, the circle champion quest, Borso 1 & 2 and the aug to go with them. Look for etherial link bracers in the bazaar, should be very cheap and decent once you are high enough to use them. Gear > than grouping with other people and having "fun" Smiley: tongue Oh, and I say ***** POP!

Lol, you're showing your age here bro. I know you're going to be doing some exploration, but losing a corpse isn't even an issue anymore with the corpse summoners in the guild lobby. Ask someone to show you to the guild lobby while in PoK. Once you zone in have a look around. You'll see big area in the middle with a giant throne, an area with a bunch of billboards (the guild recruitment area/looking for guild area)) on each side and an open area with 2 halflings (a shrewd banker and a merchant) and a bunch of "corpse summoners" on each side. Look through the merchants wares, paying special attention to the "soulstones". Right click on each one to find the one that works for your level. Once you find it, buy it and then give it to one of the corpse summoners your corpse will appear at your feet. Then simply find someone for a rez and you're good to go.

Also, if for some reason you completely lose a corpse and the rez timer is expired, you can go to Shadowrest. There's an Emissary of Shadowrest in PoK and a few other zones. Talking to them will send you to Shadowrest where you can talk to an NPC to get those unrezzable corpses back. Of course you won't get any experience back for them, but at least you won't lose any gear that was on those corpses either.

Heh, was eqplayers stalking Kao since he's on my server and almost came back teasing him that he's at 74 DAYS played, then I figured I should check my own, and my main sk is weighing it at 114 days wasted, and druid is 149! Bleh, out-nerded the person I was going to give **** to.

Found the two quests from Borso, but what aug? And what circle champion quest?

Crossfire (the aug), the Challenge of the circle, the Shopkeepers Delight, and the Needy.

Mobs in the circle of champions are gimp-tastic (did with only healing once on 6 mobs) and the reward is really good. Go forth and get upgrades!

Povar or CT.

The raiding guild myself and DSD play in on EQII has a fair number of players on brell/ct (?). Probably the best group of players I have had the luck of playing with. No offense Aude Sapere!

You mean it isn't this one under the ranger forums? Smiley: tongue Can you give anything specific you are looking for? http://crucible.samanna.net/index.php has really good information as far as single group gear goes (with a list of chain of course) and a few other things under the info for everyone tab. If I can't find something off this site or samanna it's usually a lost cause imo... I have limited rangering experience and knowledge, at least of a boxed ranger and will attempt an answer at any specific questions you have.
