Death by Starvation or ThirstFollow

A question I haven't seen raised: has anyone ever actually died of hunger or thirst? And if so, did you die again when you 'revived' but obviously still without food/drink in your pockets?
An idle thought from a wandering forager with always-too-full-pockets....

I've never actually died of hunger or thirst. I was looking for my corpse for over an hour (died in a BAD spot), and the only thing that happened was "You are hungry" and "You are thirsty" kept popping up in the main chat. I was sure I was going to keel over from thirst and starvation any second, but I never did.

The only bad effect, and I havent checked this out with the new combat regen system, on hunger and thirst is after a while you will not regen your manna or stamina/endurance.

I believe Jonwin is correct. No mana,Stamina/Endurance regen.

The additonal question is does it slow or stop health regen?

If you could die from lack of food or water the bazaar would be a morgue.

While in trader/barter mode you don't require food/water.

But when you first log your trader on you're not automatically put into trader mode, so people would be dying the second they logged on (at least that's what I think she was hinting at, but don't want to put words in her mouth). The same thing would happen when you went to deposit pp from your trader to the bank or recieve ill-gotten goods from his shared bank.

Jig,
Why would anyone be commenting on the 15 seconds it takes to go into trader mode, much less the 2 minutes you spend at the bank?

It is obvious that we were talking the hours on end that you stand in "trader" mode.

Maybe because over the past 2+ years that I've been using my trader he's never had food or water and those 15 sec/2 min stints everyday would add up pretty quickly if having no food or drink actually meant you died...

So, let me put it this way, the way I read her comment was:

But when you first log your trader on you're not automatically put into trader mode, so people would be dying the second they logged on.

If that's what she meant, yay me. If not, yay you. I don't really care either way, just pointing out how it read to me...

Hey Jig,
I am easy.
I rated you up for being able to explain your reading comprehension to me with a lack of name calling.
A very rare example these days.Smiley: smile

No worries man. People mistake what's being said all the time in forums and far too often they lash out like it's a personal attack. If someone doesn't understand where I'm coming from it's much easier to just explain it a different way then go all angry-german-kid (google it if you don't know what I mean) on them. Smiley: grin

This comment stemmed from the fact that I typically only get the 'you are out of food' message when I'm on my trader (and those RARE occasion CR's;=).

When messing with my trader I get it continuously; while at the bank, restocking, shopping, selling stuff,,,etc,,,etc.

It should have become annoying enough a long time ago for me to feed the poor lil bugger..but he's a Halfling, Halflings were made to suffer.

In the original bazaar, you did consume food and water when in trader mode which is why there are so many Bard traders around now (their sustenance song sustained a LOT of people) No one died, but the spam messages of being out of food and drink was annoying.

From day one, if you ran out of food or water you were unable to regen mana or health. For the first few years of EQ, however, all food had the same sustenance value, that is, muffins lasted as long as iron rations and milk lasted as long as Fizzlecutters Formula 5000.

To clarify my original post you do regen manna at one point per tick when you are very hungry. Using the stone of defiance I got good at judging when to buy an iron rat or a chunk of meat. Enough to keep my hungry but also enough to have regen rates normal.

Mmmmm, Muffins and Milk, the poor man's feast. I can't tell you how many of those I consumed before forage really kicked in.

Did you know the baker use to run out of Muffins? /boggle. When you found them for sale you had to stock up, or lose out on cheap food.
