It's been a while since we saw a new poll, so I though I'd offer this one.

What is the most useful Tradeskill?
Alchemy :320 (32.2%)
Baking :97 (9.8%)
Brewing :25 (2.5%)
Fishing :10 (1.0%)
Fletching :41 (4.1%)
Jewelcraft :57 (5.7%)
Make Poison :27 (2.7%)
Pottery :6 (0.6%)
Smithing :167 (16.8%)
Spell Research :101 (10.2%)
Tailoring :71 (7.1%)
Tinkering :72 (7.2%)
Total:994

Define as you see fit; most profitable, enjoyable, etc...

Edited to make Jigg happy :}~

I picked tailoring because when I have nothing else to do, I can just find a spot to sit in and break out the sewing kit. Smithing would have to be my second choice though.

Staring at your avitar is not an option so I guess tailoring will have to do. Never been much into tradeskills though.

This is a hard choice. The subject is "favorite" and the poll reads "most useful", which unfortunately, is too different things. I chose smithing in the poll since I think it's the most useful (other then tinkering, which kinda miffs me since it's limited to gnomes only). While all of the tradeskills occasionally require components from other tradeskills, it seems like smithed items are required more often. Of course some smithing and tailoring requires brewing, cooking requires some fishing, etc, etc, but pretty much all of the big 7 TSes (except JC and brewing maybe) requires smithing at some point or another. Add to that things like DoN cultural armor and you have a pretty useful TS.

My favorite, on the other hand, is brewing. It's not the most useful since most of the recipies are solely for RP purposes, but you can make some pretty interesting drinks. The same applies for baking, but it usually requires too many foraged components (my bards forage is capped at 50, grrr). Being able to make miraculous drinks on the cheap is nice as well since my bard is a Vah Shir and drinks like it's cool.

I did not pick alchemy as it is not open to all players but it has been very useful both the the shaman and my other povar characters.

I picked baking as everyone has to eat. Making your own fish rolls to stretch out the stat food is great. Making your own stat food is even better!

Fishing would be my favorite (definitely not the most useful though)

Fishing sort of strikes me as the Black Sheep of the tradeskill family, since its on a much smaller scale of on both usefulness and challenge to max out.

My main also subsists on the various fish offered by Firiona Vie for food. I'm sure the bankers tire mightily of the smell from all my weeks old half stacks of 2-17 LB Fetid Bass though =p

I chose Smithing, because it was the most fun for me overall (had 200+ in everything but tailoring on my Ranger), and because there was a huge demand for my services in the guild I was in. It was just after OOW was released, and I also made a lot of money on magnetic combines, which I never seemed to fail (Bazu as well).

Farming for Shadowscream components separates the men from the goblins. I actually enjoyed heading to the Twilight Sea for an hour or so before raids.

I vote Z: None of the above. I would love a refund on the 10k+ I wasted on Fletching, not to mention a cure for the carpal tunnel I gave myself because I'm too stubborn (dumb) to quit in time. I really thought there was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow *bonsk self* This was back before the tradeskill UI improvement and the favorite recipes and all that, might be different now, but you won't catch me spending time on tradeskills again, that's for sure.

I voted for Jewelcraft as I think that it's the most useful (crafted augs!).

My favourite is Tailoring, although I hate farming for the components!

I chose fletching because I use it to make something (arrows) that I use every time I play my main, a warrior. With a 202 skill I make silver tipped arrows with 150 range so I can shoot nice and far.

My favorite is baking with brewing a close second. I think the dev who deals with food & drinks has a creative bent. Plus I love cooking in RL, so I guess its natural that I like doing it in game. Being a druid does help a lot.

Most useful is probably jewelry. My wife has made a lot of cash over the years making and then selling items over the years.

I'm with Whitman on this - I choose none of the above. I did try tradeskilling, many years ago, but, other than Fletching, to keep myself in arrows, I have never tradeskilled since and never will. EQ tradeskilling, to me, is an exercise in boredom and mind-numbing gathering of junk, and it just soaks up money for a net return of... nothing. How do you make a small fortune tradeskilling? You start off with a large fortune :)

A friend of mine is a fanatical tradeskiller, and is amazingly good at virtually all of them, but he's never yet made money on it. I admire him for it, but pity him too, in a weird way, heh.

Just my personal opinions though, and whatever floats your EQ boat, so to speak :)

Alchemy..

I picked alchemy because you can cross skills to other classes with it. Now with potions a Warrior can get heals/haste and Casters can get crack in a bottle.

I can also make invise to undead for my ranger etc etc

Baking, I like being able to make my own food. Lord knows I can't do it in R/L.
I would choose Brewing for my second favorite for obvious reasons.

Eh,'Smithing, though I am no good at it. I also build my own arrows, though a guildie does make better ones for the guild bank. Some of the higher end crafted stuff is really good, I hear, and I should get my **** over to the forge and develop some skill for my mates sake.

I choose spell research for two reasons.

1) I can update mine and guild members spells fairly easily.
2) Certain spells are worth a small fortune in the bazaar.

So, yes, you have to be a pure caster to use it. This trade has made me fairly useful to my guild, and I can make some extra plat when I break myself on JC or smithing (the major downside to those, and for you focused tradeskillers, don't think the others outside brewing and baking let you off easy either). This trade is pretty cheap if you farm the materials, which are fairly easy to farm.

The overall picture, though, is that I tradeskill mainly for quests (8th Coldain Shawl and Aid Fimli come to mind). The insane amounts of plat required to take your skills into the 250+ range will make many balk and/or weep, but since I never spent real money for game plat, and it's "only" a game, why should I worry? Spell research allows me to fund my other trades since I only make spells "on order".

Bakeing by far, way i see it for the most part you final result in other high end combines in other skills are usualy tradeable, thats not the case with baking you need to make em yourself for the real good stuff, it also happens to be an easy skill to max out too...

but if you dont care what you eat, smithing and tailoring be on the top end of the list too very usefull...

I would have to say tailoring to me is best/most useful TS. I have made over 1 mill plat doing this so far. No end in site either. My main is is an erudite and she makes Serene Steelweave Bracer. I sell for 1.2K each and they tribute for 7622 so nice big market for them. Much better ratio then what the sickles sell for.

Most of TSs I make money at early on it was baking and brewing for stat food and solstice earring quest. You just have to search the receipes for skill ups that sell well. Yes some TSs are a time/money sink till near max them out but their are skills up that reduce such things esp if you can't sell make for tribute value so you get something out of it at least.

Another way to reduce cost is to farm in an area where you can pick up several TS componets and sell the ones you don't need to other TSers. Most important is do TSs you will have fun with. Some people like others don't go with the flow.

I think reshearch is the most important as this is the only way to get some spells. either you make it or someone must make them for you.

Baking is Definately the most useful, by far. Every single toon I know uses player crafted Stat food. I know many that have not a single other crafted item, and even look with a bit of disdain on crafting, but they ALL eat.

Baking has to be the most usefull unless you'd rather be on an Ration and water diet. Brewing has to be the favirote just to get drunk with.

It amazes me that Alchemy is blowing away all other TS but only one person commented on it (and choose it). Yeah it's only available for Shaman to perform but it is definitely the most useful. Who doesn't carry around potions? Even my Shaman carries potions (gotta get my Damage Shield somehow and mana in a bottle!). Even if you just buy the potions off of the vendor in the Alchemy room in PoK, you're using Alchemy created items (albiet it pre-made AI alchemy). It's also one of the few TS that has immediate benefits...
