Is it even worth my time trying to get throwing up on my 52 rogue (or any toon for that matter)? Seems like I have better range with a bow, and crit so infrequently as to make it useless, or am I missing something obvious?

It depends on what you're planning on doing with him. There are a lot of raid encounters where you need to provide ranged damage and it really benefits you in those instances. If you're only planning on doing groupable content with him though, it's probably not really worth fretting about.

But on the other hand it doesnt take a lot of time. I just took my rogue to everfrost and asked the person killing IG if I could work on my throwing skill.
The I grouped with a druid who was doing rot and root while I threw. Rogue was 41 at the time. At 52 he should still find SG in no ro blue.
Oh I noticed a crit on about ten percent of my throws. I was using shurikins bought from a vendor.

I was wondering about this too. My best damage throwing (knives) has been a crit for 60pt. Usually it is 18-36 with lots of crits. As far as damage goes that's pretty weak compared to dual-weilding melee damage (even forgetting about proc damage).

Having said that, I am trying to max out throwing. Basic technique is to stand behind, /autofire summoned daggers, and rush in and backstab when it refreshes. DPS suffers but if you can get away with it, your throwing skill improves.

Anyone have info on better damage throwing items? Cannot really afford to /autofire some of the new javelins but I am curious. If you can get 200pt damage from throwing stuff, might be worth it.

A Dusty Soriz Workers Pouch, Stoneroot Starfish, Ton Po's Mystical Pouch and Pouch of Curses all summon unlimited items with pretty respectable DPS. First 2 are obtainable by casual players while the last 2 are raid only.

Rogues also get a disc which goes along with throwing which adds a really nice proc to our throwing items.

I would think the bow would do more damage personally.

In order for Rogues to do good damage is to throw at the mobs back, we are the only class that gets Deadly Strikes this way. From the front and sides you can get crits, the back is where the damage is at.

I use Ton Po's to summon my stars and have not used a bow since I won it, the damage is nothing close to my melee output but it gets me by for the required range fights.

You want to throw something, you need a berserker. We summon these and these.

Edit: Just like to add, with my 52 zerker I tend to crit in the 160's with my lvl 50 summoned axe. Zerkers have parsed well over 100DPS with the above two linked axes. Pretty good for throwing damage if ya ask me.

Made about 400 runic War Javelins. Best damage was a 70pt crit. Usual damage was 10-30 with crits 2x. Best is the 4x deadly strike from behind, so it is possible I suppose to get a 140pt DS using these. Delay is fast (15) for these. cost was minimal, probably <25pp to make 400.
