Best race for necro?Follow

Anyone have any suggestions on what the best race would be for a necro?

Gnome, Erudin and Dark elf are the top three racial choices due to their high level of intelligence.
What criteria do you hold as most important? That will help you choose what race to be. If you want to see what the differant stats are for choices take a look at casters realm. They used to have a breakdown of stats according to race before and after allocation of your points.

No more racial penalties so the answer is clear...Iksar best innate regen lich wont even affect you until at least your 30s

I would say Iksar too. Loss of the racial penalty for the win. A little better AC and automatic regular regen all the time make up for the little less then 30 or so points in intellegince you will suffer for any other race.

A lot of people like to go Euridte (because if you toss everything into intellegence they have the highest starting intelligence) but unless your twinked you are actually worse off for first 20 or so levels til you get your agility fixed. Euridites start at 70 agility which is 5 below the non penalty to AC level. So either you drop like 10 points in agi ( you can just drop 5 in it but then run the risk of going under 75 anytime you carry much of anything) so you dont get messed up AC wise at lower levels ( only time it really matters) or you deal with being even easier then your average necro 1-20 to be killed. By 20 or so even if you dont farm cash to get ahead you shouldnt have to worry about AGI anymore as you wont be getting close enough to get hit or you will have found gear to make it not matter. The other factor to consider with Eruidtes is night vision ( a pain til you get something to fix it, like level 12 I think is the spell that gives night vision).

Gnome, Dark elf are a wash really statwise and such.

To be honest with TSS though I would be tempted to go Drakkin. Tons of quests plus the whole breath weapon thing at level 5. Still probably in the long run be better off as an Iksar but Drakkin for the novelty and such would be my number 2 choice. Any other race you can cover for whatever problems you have if you just know they are there to start with so do what you want.

Iksar. Apart from the fact racial penalties were dropped, you will be able to do the Demi-Lich Skullcap quest with a lot less bother.

Don't forget the Iksar's innate AC bonus. It may not mean much to a caster, but every little bit helps.

Base int doesn't amount to much. INT gear is very cheap, by lvl 40ish with 110 INT I had mine past maxed. I made a froglok just to be different. However something that sucks about Froglok (at least on my server) is I have NEVER seen anything above expert armor for casters. That is something to consider I suppose.

I can't believe nobody has talked about how race means nothing because stats are maxed at higher lvls. Also remember as a necro 9 times out of 10 your going to be in some sort of lich form anyways.

I forgot Iksar can be necro. I would now say do that, forage and a swishy tail FTW! No need to be different.

Yes, all points into INT and any left over into STA (Stamina).

Nope all points into stamina. More hp equals more lich ability.

And the classic debate begins... []

When I made my necro back in the day, I went with Erudite and put as much as I could into INT, with the rest into STA. I QUICKLY hit the INT cap (was capped by level 45 IIRC). That would be even easier now-a-days. I would personally say go with a balance between the two now (regardless of race) and focus your gear more towards raw HP and +Mana, rather then raw INT and STA. You'll typically get more benefit that way.

Even though I liked having high INT on my Erudite, I always wished I had made an Iksar instead. I actually tried starting an Iksar once my necro had reached level 50 or something, but couldn't stand starting a necro all over again (you get used to the power, and your power grows immensely with levels, especially as a necro).

Forage is AWESOME, especially if you ever decide you want to start doing tradeskills. The racial cap of 50 kinda sucks, but it's better then a racial cap of 0...

Well there is a jaunty little cap, with a halfling finger bone band, just the right touch of "dash" that any necro would love to have as an offset his amulet of necropotence.

What cap are you talking about? Level cap? stam cap? or are you asking about the negative experience modifyier that used to be on the races such as Ogre, Troll, Iksar and Barbarian? If the latter is what you are asking about then NO race now has a negative modifyier to experience. Go back and read notinterested and fishtaco s post here.
(This change made when TSS went live IIRC.)

Aye, you'll cap out int pretty quickly, but sta, the other important stat to worry about, will be difficult to cap even at the higher levels. I think I'm like +100 int or something over my max int, but my sta is still 9 points below the max, that's with quite a bit of +20-30 to all stat items. I think the consensus is that int is the more important but you'll max this early, and therefore you'll benefit with stamina at the later stages. So, ask yourself, would you rather have it easy in the beginning or have that slight advantage during the middle to end game which will take MUCH longer to get through?

I'd go with stamina, I think 95% of the time I've died, I've had a lot of mana left(over 50%), but no health of course haha.

the above 2 posts i was refering to the level cap. i guess thats still in play :( o well

so what should i do? split the stats down the middle? half int half stamina? or 3/4 stamina 1/4 int?

I would think putting everything into INT might help a lower levels but by the upper levels wouldn't INT be maxed by gear and buffs anyway? If so, would it make sense to focus on secondary stats?

ya, it would make sense, but having that extra int boost at a lower level would be nice, however stamina seems to be fairly important as well. maybe i'll just split it half and half

Leaning more towards STA early on would be wise. Think about it; by far most caster gear has lots of INT on it anyways so you'll get plenty of it through normal gear. Stock up on HP any way early. I had pretty much split between INT and STA when I made my necro and maxed INT through gear early enough. I'm not even near 200 STA now, though, at 66.

Level cap of all players is now 75.
stats cap at 255 until you reach the 50s.
My troll shaman has had max stam since 53, now it is still maxed with self buf focus of spirit at 260. Same for my Wisdom. I have begun reducing my stam items for pure HP items.
#22 Nov 19 2006 at 10:13 PM Rating: Decent
so most of the stats on sta rather than int?
5:1 should be a good ratio eh?

50? Level cap was raised to 60 with Kunark. 65 with PoP, 70 with OoW, 75 with TSS.
