What are AA's and how do you get them? What are the Crystals for and how do you get them? And I have heard about my Epic... What is my Epic and is there someplace I can read up on it?
An 'epic' is an epic weapon that is quested for. It usually involves a long tortuous process, consisting of charging all over Norrath, chatting to NPC's who give you menial tasks to perform and various fights, some solo, some involving groups and usually at least one or two that need raid force. The end result is a cool weapon or weapons that unfortunately now are often not as good as some of the dropped weapons availiable.
AA's are alternative advancement points. When you get into the 50's, rather than have all your xp go into raising your lvl, you can choose to put some or all of the xp you gain into aa points. They are used to boost stats, or to give you entirely new skills. there is an ongoing debate about wether to gain levels first, or stop at a certain level and do aa's. I think most people do a bit of both. I tend to do aa's if I'm soloing. Makes it feel like your achieving something, as aa's tend to go faster than regular lvls.
Im assuming the crystals you are reffering to are the ones you get as a reward for completing DoN missions. These can be used to buy armour augmentations and weapons from certain merchants. Look here. Theres Ebon ones too.

There are three types of epics:
Epic 1.0 were intorduced during the Ruins of Kunark back in late 1999-early 2000. For every class it was in fact a weapon. At the time, it was the best weapon you could get. As paulsol sayd there was a lot of running around talking to various NPC and lots of menial tasks. If you followed the lore/storyline it was actually quite immersing. At the time, it took raid forces to kill some of the mobs, and for the most part during Kunark only the high end players had their epics. At this point in time, many of the epics can be solo'd by some of the high end players.
Epic 1.5 and Epic 2.0 were released with the Omens of War expansion. For some classes, the new epic was not a weapon, for example, clerics got an epic shield. At the time of Omens of War it was perhaps one of the best weapons/items you could get. I know some of the high end game, the players still used their weapon, but not as their primary weapon. Epic 1.5 were designed to be obtainable by anyone that could assemble a raid force. Epic 2.0 were designed for the high end game players. The epic 2.0 is a more powerful version of the epic 1.5.
