There is no "tried and true" way. Many people have theories on how to get him to spawn, but more often then not they eventually get debunked. Just keep killing everything you can, primarily focusing on the desert area, but if you notice anything roam out of the desert area, go ahead and kill it too. I've personally killed him at least a dozen times and can tell you I didn't do it "the same way" every time to get him to pop.

Exactly, Getting him to spawn is 20% luck and 80% patience.

Personally i have always preferred the oot camp that way i can just set a timer and do stuff around the house as opposed to running around killing multiple mobs.

Thanks for the info and notinterested what do you mean about setting timers?

There's a timer built into the game that you can set to give you a warning. It was originally intended as a way for players to keep track of how long they were online IIRC, probably in response to all of the angry spouses yelling "You've been on that game for 3 hours already!". I can't for the life of me remember what the keypress is to bring it up though.

notinterested is likely talking about an actual timer though, like a little kitchen timer or something else that's audible. Since the placeholders in OoT are on a set respawn timer it's easy to kill the mob, set the timer, then walk away safely until the timer goes off.

Back when I used to play the rumor was to keep all the undead…er … well dead at all times. It would then spawn at a certain time of the day, heh... I’m sure that wasn’t it. It’s just a very long and boring camp..

When my shaman was new, she would often hunt in so ro. Saw the AC twice in one week (about 20 hours play time). Then in my 40s I hunted the Sand Giants in the zone for over two weeks , never saw the AC at all.

Where do you get the times of the respawns?

What worked best for me, and seemed at least partially reliable, kill everything that wanders for about an hour or more, waiting until it seems like you haven't seen any SG's in a while.

Sit on a dune top for 20mins, watching tv and occasionally spinning around looking.

I invariably would see 1 or 2 SG's, but every 4th or 5th time I did it, it was the AC.

Could be just coincidence, but it seemed pattern-like, if nothing else.

Good luck.

Kill a PH and time respawn with a watch.

I used to see this guy up while doing LDoN's back during that expansion. I don't know what lvl you are but I'd do some N Ro LDoN's and you could make a little XP while hunting him possibly and that would help kill some time =-).

I've also had good success by killing everything that moves in South Ro desert area. But I have to admit that I have had the most success when I do this with my ranger. I'm able to quickly get to the Sand Giants as soon as they spawn and more importantly I'm able to get to the AC before someone else takes him down.

Like notinterested, I prefer the OOT camp.

I kill the PH, and go about doing other things (cleaning the house, reading a book, etc). I use a simple egg timer that I bought at the Dollar Store to keep track of how much time I have left. I don't remember the respawn time, but it was in the 10-20 minute range.

Or, if no one else is in the zone, then I simply have FOE up and run over to the seafury cyclops island, kill a few cyclops (and Mr ATM, of course), and then run back and kill the PH again.

Either route you take, like the above have stated, expect a long camp.

Good luck !

There is a couple of mobs that roam with funny names. They are off-named mummys such as A Sand Mummy or just "A mummy" One of the theories is that those can cause him to spawn. Another is the normal Sand Giants can spawn him. In any case your best bet is to just slaughter everything that touches sand. I have had him spawn once but it was way back (as in during the velious era). Probably better off just camping him in OOT.
