What does it stand for? I gather its used to pop threads up to the top of hte list because someone finds that thread interesting and useful. But what do the initials stand for?

It actually means "In Before The Lock", noting a particularly stupid thread that's bound to be locked/deleted by an admin when they see it or it's reported.

Couldn't help it. It does stand for In Before the Lock. Usually when something stupid or completely out of place is written, we all jump in to try to beat the admins.

Yeah, it's kinda funny. Looks like I didn't get rated down on this thread (yet), but somebody actually took the time to rate down all of my posts in Railus' new poll... /boggle. S'ok though. If they they get a kick out of trying to move my score, more power to them.

OK... so how do you know if you have been rated "up" or "down"
How do you rate other people, and why would anybody engage in the rating game?

BTW thanks for all the responses. I have some idea of not only what IBTL stands for, but also a bit of the history behind it. Thank you all!

In order to rate a post, you must have a rating of 3.01 (I think) or better, and now you do (for the time being, anyway). Click on your account to see the actual numeric value.
